Today we're looking at another fun detail between The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Extended Edition of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. It's a connection between the two trilogies I noticed myself for the first time a week ago or so, and I haven't actually heard it mentioned before.
As Thorin's company arrives to Rivendell in The Hobbit, Elrond greets them and speaks in Elvish. Right away Glóin thinks he is insulting him in Elvish, which he doesn't understand. This parallels to The Lord of Rings, where Glóin's son, Gimli is the one insulting an elf, Haldir, in Khuzdul, the secret language of the Dwarves.
