I've always been fascinated by the way Broderick Crawford walked. Considering his generous dimensions, he had a very distinctive "spring" in his step, not unlike that of someone who just had a big win at the casino & had no intentions of telling his wife. And to all those pointing out continuity issues involving the cars, the producers clearly recognized pretty early on that these shows were for the ages & wanted to include as many classic cars as possible for us to marvel at. That's my theory, anyway. Either that or the crew were all drinking as much as big Broderick reputedly did...

You people are letting nostalgia completely take the place of good taste. The original Star Trek was groundbreaking, but it was pretty awful. The special effects were just plain laughable... nearly as bad as the acting. There's A VERY good reason bill shatner is continously voted as one of the worst actors ever... by the critics and his peers. Remember his epic fight with the creature in the desert? On the other hand TNG was everything TOS was not.

At 04:54 The car shown is clearly a 1957 Buick - two headlights. It is not, however, the car in which Matthews left the rail yard or the hospital. A 1958 Dodge (four headlights) appears at 03:42 , pulls over, and we cut to Broderick Crawford as Matthews in the driver's seat at 03:48. Matthews drives the Dodge to the rail yard, arriving at 04:22 to park alongside a 1958 Buick (also a four headlight car). Matthews then gets back into the Dodge in which he leaves the rail yard as his sidekick makes a radio call which includes a request to contact a victim's wife who "lives at sixty - two Center Avenue". The 1957 Buick at 04:54 (two headlights) is responding to that call. Continuity is verified when Sgt. Williams and Matthews exit the hospital at 08:07 and get into the same cars in which they left the rail yard , Williams' '58 Buick and Matthews' '58 Dodge.

But the dramatic artist and/or musician is a driven soul. He's not content to take a slave job and play it safe. Then when he does find work it's often sporadic. Eastwood and Reynolds had early careers like this. Then when the actor becomes a huge star all of his "friends" are only sychophants. Trying to grab a piece of him. Michael Jackson and Elvis were two good examples. Tons of hanger ons but only there to bask in the star's success.

This is NOT Union, it is like the East Coast longshoremen hiring process, corrupt and run by the mob. The West Coast union forced the mob out in the 1930s, Commies would not tolerate the corruption. The East Coast longshoremen was mob run till the 1960s when the Federal Government required Union hiring halls as on the West Coast to cut out the mob. Railroad Unions tended to be honest, no need to use corruption, union dues were more then enough. On the other hand the West Coast longshoremen union was disliked, since it was communist. Since this show was filmed in California, they had to transfer the corruption to the railroad to both avoid being seen as helping the Communists and still tell a story of corrupt hiring policies.

Dude also played a doctor who dies of a heart attack at the beginning of the episode but has some jewels stolen from the glove compartment of his car which is likewise a Chrysler Imperial. Maybe it was his car that they used in those two episodes!

Nimoy's "blade" was similar to a "blade" used by another actor in a short also featuring Gene Roth: Shemp Howard
