saying addiction changes the brain , that's a very broad statement, everything changes the brain, everything we experience in life , depression changes the brain , lsd and magic mushrooms change the brain, lsd and magic mushrooms change the brain on a neurological level for the better ; addiction is normally formed through the release of dopamine as the main hormone which controls impulse/impulse control or is a attribute to it.

Bruh, its not genetic, its environmental. If your parents were addicts, and you were there to experience them doing drugs or something, then you would have been peer-pressured into doing drugs. But its not genetic because if you were raised by an adopted family, who were no addicts, you probably would not become an addict.

Your answer is too simple as well. I agree that the War on Drugs is wasteful and a failure, and has manifested as a War on the Poor and the Minorities. Users should not be treated as the criminals, the manufacturers and suppliers (maybe of some, but not all, drugs) But treatment also often fails. And blanket decriminalization of all drugs also has it's pitfalls. I'm all for the decriminalization of marijuana, which is far less dangerous than alcohol, although I don't use it, hated the effects when I tried it in my youth, have loved ones who have wasted their lives to it, and can't even stand the smell of it. There is some new research that suggests that having a sucky, painful life with no hope (more often felt by those in poverty and affected by discrimination of any kind) are more likely to begin to use drugs at an earlier age, which is more likely to lead to continued use and addiction. These people are also less likely to have the support or resources to beat addictions once they take hold. No amount of treatment can overcome the despair of poverty, the hopelessness of being the target discrimination, or the lack of opportunity for a better than completely sucky life.

We can't solve individual problems, that's up to each individual, its their own spiritual journey. Best to let it go and accept it, help those that want your help. But if you ask me, the solution lies in information. A well informed teenager will steer away from drugs,if that's his spiritual path. I just let it go, let God. I do think that if all drugs were legal or decriminalized, most humans would self destruct, but i agree it would be better, i just don't think people are ready for it. Even adults act like children. One day the problem will solve itself... When people grow and evolve. Let it go.

On a certain level, we have a drug store in our brain, the neurochemicals that show up in flow: so dopamine, norepinephrine, anandamide, endorphins, and serotonin. If you were to try to cocktail the street drug version of that, right, you're trying to blend like heroin and speed and coke and acid and weed- and point is, you can't do it. It turns out the brain can cocktail all of 'em at once, which is why people will prefer flow to almost any experience on Earth. It's our favorite experience. It's the most addictive experience on Earth. Why? 'Cause it cocktails five or six of the largest pleasure drugs the brain can produce. We're all capable of so much more than we know. That is a commonality across the board. And one of the big reasons is we're all hardwired for flow, and flow is a massive amplification of what's possible for ourselves.

I give props to this especially being brodcasted but would like to add more accurate info to the piece. That particular diagram is from a heavy cocaine abuser. Most drugs do not surge as much dopamine into the synapses with only heroin comparing and amphetamine then meth being the strongest of all. 3 years is not even remotely close to cookie cutter average time to recover from "all drugs" this coming from a just quit fully 4 months ago meth user(used for about a year not daily). And mostly stoner keep ur chin up peeps. Time and effort will change everything and only one you can control so do the most with it and time will only help stabilize it : Just a good side note most drugs users even heroin/meth will recover notably in 6 months . The amount of recovery being dependent on dose/ frequency of said drug

Great info here, but the brain can change, it is always changing. New neurons have been shown to grow in adult mammals and humans. This is covered in much more detail on the Truth of Addiction website. You should check it out

All your degrees don't make u understand addiction. He's leaving out the most important reason you can't stop... YOURE SEVERELY CHEMICALLY DEPRESSED WITH PHYSICAL DISCOMFORT EACH AND EVERY TIME U RUN OUT. Don't even mention sugar or cigarettes. Those are nothing

i empathize with you. i have had a relationship with addiction for a long time. and i dont know how the hell to face the prospect of three years. i personally am not surrounded by the best people. the people i have as any so called support...they have only pushed me to the drugs as they are judgemental, suspicious, and without compassion when it comes to the addiction. i def dont feel safe like i can be honest. i feel like id be completely on my own with it and i have never made it too far when ive quit in the past. it sux to try and quit when no one knows whats going on. you live in that little toxic cycle of shame and guilt.

+pinxxpose I'm sorry my reply took so long bro, I hadn't noticed!! One year has passed since your publication, and I still don't think I've changed that much. You definitely NEED some support. Mine right now is my parents; luckily I can count on them and they are really encouraging. You need a beacon, an inspiration whoever or whatever the cause may be... If you only do it spontaneously, it can't last much. How are you doing friend? I hope better. Happy holidays man, best wishes for the next year!!!

Instead of you girls a d boys (who are suffering from any form of addiction) constantly talking about judgement, understanding, underestimating, support etc etc etc... Please please if you REALLY want to help others... Advice as MANY MANY people (online/offline/in person/schools kids/even kindergarten kids, etc). ... On the miseries of de-addiction 🙏🙏🙏🙏 prevention is better than cure! Ask them to take a SOLID oath on "Just saying NO" ... Educate them on the exact """"""tactics""""" used by your drug addict friends who got you into their nasty game!!!! Tell them how to identify such friends and how to avoid them like corona virus.... how not to feel ashamed to say NO or feel guilty to loose such DARK friendships.. lastly how to develop good habits like yoga, exercise, learning music, singing, volunteering, praying, spirituality, painting, martial arts, swimming, etc ANYTHING to keep them busy and occupied with healthy/fun habits and healthy friendships 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Notice all the scum bag recovery comments on here from "the Malibu recovery "....Those places don't give a "f" about you....You need to take out a second mortgage on your house if God forbid you or one of your kids have a drug problem....Shame on those POS places....Detox at home, if it's alcohol then you need a rehab...Drugs do it at home and STAY OUT OF THOSE PLACES THAT COST MY COUSIN 22,000 DOLLARS.....Have your GF or BF give you a massage everyday and save thousands...,Those places are criminal....Like the place in Hawaii , where the owner was an ex addict now he is a greedy loser who fills his pockets with cash and leaves people broke and in debt....Scumbags....My rehab I'm going to open will be for anyone...There will be a no turn away anyone policy, regardless of their $$$ ...I'll sleep well at night, and know I contributed to society....
