You're so right Paige. Some people just make fun of people when they stutter, and hurts them, not only that. But they've never walked in your shoes or been through the things that you've been through. I stutter when I talk, been stuttering my whole life. But I've learned to not care about what people say to me if they hear me stutter, I try not to that is. Because they don't know me, or you Paige. And my stuttering has got better from me practicing, but I still hate it when I can't get a word out, makes me want to punch a wall. lol. Anyways you seem like a really cool lady and I hope I get to meet you in person at some point!

I've learned to tune out other people's reactions. Only way I can get stuff done during a day :) So my stutter is along the lines of yours (very similar). I've been doing it all my life (I'm 43 now) and to give you some context, I work for a major video game publisher with about 300 people on my team. Department meetings can be awkward. Talking to senior management (COO's, CFO's, etc) can be awkward - but the weirdest thing is, people switch focus to the content of your speech rather than how its delivered pretty quickly. Just wanted to say good on you for making this. Not a lot of people focus on whats going on in our heads when its happening.

They need to educate themselves. I am obsessive ompulsive and writing and talking is hard because I don't think most people understand my point. As my dear sister said, I "can't see the forest for the trees" but she knew me like our mom. Short story short, I have a hard time writing because it's hard to express it on paper, but most people don't know that's why I prefer talking and recording that over my handwriting. Great video! Very informative and I like it!

Paige your a hero. Listen I've got a stutter to and I found something that helped me, maybe it can help you to. Read the dictionary cover to cover (don't worry about memorising the words, they all go in at some level), you will have a far greater range in your vocabulary. That in turn gives you options to replace them words you would often get stuck on. I am hurt by peoples responses when they try hiding there laugh, therefore laughing at me. When they are open about laughing I find i am OK with that the majority of time, since they would be laughing with me as I find my own stutter funny sometimes to. It was nice to see you laugh about it at one point in your video, doing this puts others at ease, in effect your taking down there own social barriers for them. Something I just thought of is maybe you could look into NLP and play around with that subject and see if it has any affect, I suspect it could have. Thankyou for doing your video. Andrew

I didn't realise I'd seen this video before, even commented. I'm here with an update. I'm not as confident in my stutter as Paige but I'm certainly more than I was 8 months ago. The growth is real. I'm hiding less, letting people know just a little more. I still try to protect myself from possible negativity especially while I'm trying to overcome this, but I'm more comfortable in it now. It's a slightly lighter burden but yeah. I'm working on it. Hopefully I come back accidentally again with another update 😊

Internally, my reaction is that I get really mad. However, it's typically not in my personality to lash out at people, so I calmly tell them that I stutter. I feel that even though someone may not have seen heard a person stutter before, they can clearly see that something about our speech and facial expressions (assuming we're speaking in-person) are "different" for lack of better words & the first reaction from adults should never be to mock or laugh.

Now I'm 15 year old teen whose bilingual and i can barely talk to my parents without stuttering crazy and running out of breath and they usually have to finish my sentence when I talk but when I speak English I dont stutter as much. I think stuttering is caused by a traumatic event between the ages of 2-7. As a Clinical Hypnotherapist I have found the cause of 100% of my clients. anything from a dog barking in a child's face, to a child seeing some one get shot. This is the spectrum that I have worked with. If any one has any questions about finding the cause of your stutter, please let me know. I think if you can find the cause, you can get to the cure. Thank you for your time.
