I've not made any videos on SOVTE's. Props and other techniques can help some people. I've found a lot of success with my exercises. My "edge" exercises are pretty effective at creating efficient vocal fold movement for correcting air escaping. Thanks for the great comment!

I have abductor spasmodic dysphonia. I often get tense before I speak. Have you ever helped people with this and their breathing?
@RogerLoveVocals
Жыл бұрын
Yes! I've had a lot of success with helping people overcome spasmodic dysphonia. It is definitely an airflow issue. If you've been diagnosed with that, I use my vocal warmups to create better air flow and better vocal cord vibration control. Both of those will help you get past SD.

I have asthma. My breathing is absolutely horrible and is making it very difficult to sound intelligent when I'm constantly gasping for air.

When you say small in no tension in the stomach what do you mean by that at 1.49
@RogerLoveVocals

Great question. I mean to say, "small breath in, no tension as you hold. Then repeat -- small breath in, no tension as you hold, etc." Hope that helps clarify. Thanks for the great question.

I just can't help but my stomach tenses up every time I blow out air. What can I do? Sir.

First of all, don't be discouraged. Habits, including breathing habits, can be difficult to change. Keep doing the exercise I gave in this video and do them regularly. You have to retrain your body and convince it that you don't need to tense up to hold the air in. If it helps, let a tiny bit of air out between breaths so that it's not a complete stopping of the air as you practice this technique.

This is directly from his book if u want more description.. Blowing Out Candles.. Try this: Take a proper inhale with your hand on your stomach. Imagine that you’re facing a cake with a line of candles glowing on top. Imagine that the cake is level with your head, about three or four inches away from your mouth. Now softly blow out the candles one by one, opening your lips to blow, quickly closing them, and opening your lips again to blow out the next. As you do this the first time, notice what’s happening to the stomach-area muscles. Do you feel them contracting each time you blow? Do you feel your stomach pushing out against your hand when you blow? Neither of those is the effect you want. Try blowing out the line of candles again. This time, feel your stomach MOVE IN with little pressure when you blow, then stop. Feel it MOVE IN, then stop, with each candle you blow out. It shouldn’t come out again until you take your next breath. (Feel free to inhale when you run out of breath.) Notice the difference between this “stop and start” and the more spasm-like jerks that you feel when you tighten your muscles.

Does the stomach bounce back after the puff?
@HarshKS2

Puff means inhale? Yes if u fill too much air, that's what shouldn't be done, instead start w less air then find out best volume of air u r comfortable with, which doesn't put pressure on stomach muscles..
