Hi Mike. I need to lose 100lbs. I'm on day 2 of 18/6. I think this works good for me. Is it ok to just do 18/6 every day for the month, up calories for a week, then go back to 18/6 restricted calories? I'm doing everything else you said to a T, thanks so much! I'm 42 and have been over 300 pounds for years,but for the last two months I've been on the keto diet with intermittent fasting,I've lost 3st so far but now I want to start doing proper exercise,I really want to lose another 4st . I need to lose 90 lbs. Tried 19/5. Too slow and monotonous day after day. Tried OMAD. It made me kinda crazy. Putting the onus of ALL your nutrition in one meal is kind of stressful and annoying TBH. Began ADF, it is freakin great and really appeals to my back and forth contrary nature. I don't do the full 36 hrs though, I eat 500 calories of pure protein/fat at 4 PM on fasting days. So I fast about 20 hours on those days. Feeling great so far. Walking 40 minutes at the end of fasting days, right before my 500 calorie "bump". Need to get around to doing the resistance on "Valhalla" days, maybe in the mornings after breakfast. Used to be 325, now 268 and headed for 170 or 175. Keep up the good vids, Thx.

Do you think this would still work not eating MWF? Sucks the week days are odd so you can’t keep it consistent for the actual days doing this. Not going crazy at weekend but I find it harder when I’m not working.

Hi, Mike....I might have missed it, but can you address min / max calorie intake during the 8-hour period as it relates to target weight? Example....I'm around 250 and ideally want to be around 185-195. What should my max caloric intake be during my 8-hour meal period? Thanks in advance!

Hi Bernies, I think multiplying your body weight by 10 it's a nice calorie deficit to be in. So 2,500 cal would be good for you. If your goal weight is 185 to 195... If you want to be more aggressive you can multiply that by 10. But keep in mind if you alternate day fasting it will be difficult to take in enough protein, vitamins, minerals and nutrients if you go very low calorie. Best - Mike

Hey Mike Thank you for this plan. What to do if during those 36 hours I feel very dizzy and nauseated? This is since I have GERD and empty stomach causes issues. Also I can't digest protein. I get extremely bloated and gassy if I eat high protein.

The problem is it is nearly impossible to find a "jason fung" type doctor...or any type of doctor that believes that food is medicine./whole food/plant based food/intermittent fasting, etc. Any recommendations for the Chicagoland area? Also, if you're promoting a whole food diet, why allow artificial sweetners and diet drinks--it's all chemicals. Otherwise, great videos.

Mike it’s working god bless you. I’m in full swing and I’m doing exercise every day now and I’m doing the OMAD and now my doctor just started lowering my meds. My A1C has dropped from 15.4 down to 5.9 and my doctor is speechless. I follow you and Dr Fung and Dr Berg. You guys are saving my life for my four kids ❤

The diet break is an interesting concept, I’ve done alternate day fasting twice in my life, both for about 3-4 months and then I gained all the weight back. I never did a break.

I've been lifting weights for 40 years. I used to be about 10 to 15 pounds heavier and more muscular right before my knee operation. I had a knee operation right after I turned 44, and my knee never felt good after that. So I had to change my whole training program to more lightweights. Luckily I'm still able to change my upper body pretty well. I also do a lot of calorie cycling... I generally don't post my cheat meals or diet break meals. I really should start doing that. I can see how your girlfriend thinks I barely eat. This was a good eye-opening comment, for me. Thanks 🙏 Best - Mike

I wouldn’t worry too much about the calories, for your 12 hour eating window… you’re going to be in a great calorie deficit from the 36 hour fast. But try to eat high protein during the 12 hours. You want to maintain your muscle mass when losing weight and protein will help… if you can also do some resistance training on that day I would be great (don’t overdo it just 20 minutes)

How do you deal with hunger on the fasted days? The first two fastest days were extremely hard for me, I felt dizzy and hungry most of the day. Does it get easier?

Hey Tony why don’t you try this - OMAD one day - 2MAD the next -2,200 calories on 2MAD days -1,2000 calories on OMAD days - keep carbs on the low side about 100 g or less per day - try to eat at least 150 g of protein per day. That might be difficult on OMAD so go with 100g I think you can quickly lose weight on this program. You can also go with what I talked about in the video alternate day fasting but it’s pretty aggressive.

Hi, I'm 61 yrs, 6 feet, 316 lbs. I started this diet on Sunday at 8pm, Tuesday at 8:30a I broke fast. I ate my last meal at 4:00p, finished by 5p. 36 hours will be at 4a... what's the best way to time this out? Thanks for your content!

Just come as close as you can to 36 hours... Don't overdo it. Stay well hydrated throughout and check in with your doctor to make sure they're on the same page with you. Let me know how you're doing in a week or two. Best - Mike

@MikeCola 👍I was 36 hours the first time and 41 the second. I started eating today at 9:30a and I went past 8 hours. My last meal finished at 7:45p. Now I'll be on track after my next 36 or so hour fast. My Doctor is all about it. He just wants me to listen to my body and let him know if anything funky happens. My two other issues are eating enough "good" food in 8 hours to get all of my nutrition. Also, how the heck did anyone drink 150 ounces of water a day. 🤷♂️🤣

Sounds good 👍 I'm glad your doctor is on board... Try to take it as much protein as you can without it upsetting your stomach when you're eating. It's important it will help you maintain muscle mass

Hi Mike, It's been almost 2 weeks, and I'm down 16 lbs! That's not a true 16 lbs., because today is my eating day, so I think of it as the end of today as my true weight, so we'll see. The main thing is that this can't be a 36/8 fast, the hours just don't make sense, 40/8 is actually what it needs to be so that you can eat at good hours. I go from 8pm to 12n the next day, that way I can eat up until 8pm again. 🤪 I am very pleased with the results, and it's not as difficult as people would think. It takes all of the guesswork out, so you're not stressing all day about what you can or can not eat! The most difficult thing is trying to get enough nutrients in the 8 hour eating window without eating too much. To close, I haven't even started any real exercise yet, not even prolonged walking, so that should even kick it up more! LET'S GO! Thanks for your effort to get people healthy!
