In this video I'll be making a bench seat with a butcher block top entirely out of 2x4's using mortice and tenon joinery to connect the legs. I like the look of the bench without any aprons, so I had to make the top quite thick and make the mortises very deep to insure the legs would be strong enough. Although I used a lot of fancy power tools to make this, you could easily do it with minimum tools - a circular saw, drill, sander and a sharp chisel is all you would need.
Total cost of materials for this project is around £35 GBP ($45 USD). This includes seven 2.4m lengths of 2x4, a box of 60mm screws and waterproof carpenters wood glue.
