The rice, chicken and sambal was all so fragrant! 😍 My family complimented the dish greatly and said it’s so much nicer than the ones selling at restaurants. Malaysia hadir. Ini baru betul asli nasik lemak dimakan dengan sambal tumis ikan bilis siap ada bawang dah digoreng awal dimasukkan bila campuran bahan kisar tu dah betul masak pecah minyak. Ayamnya tu kalau tak campur dengan tepung dan telur lagi sedap makan dengan nasik lemak ni kalau saya. Nasiknya pun banyak bawang merah sedap gitu. 5 bintang!!!!

Made this today and it was amazing! I made a few changes, since I didnt have shrimp paste, I substituted with raw Ikan Bilis (Anchovies). I added raw sliced onion to the sambal instead of fried onion. I didnt add onion or garlic to my rice. Rest was the same as this video. Thank you for such an amazing recipe. :)

@@noorjahan315 it's fine if you don't have any shrimp paste, you can add raw ikan bilis around 2 table spoon into a blender, and cook it with same oil you fried anchovies earlier, trust me, it's change everything n if you have pandan 🌿, put it for an aroma. And one more thing, use a coconut sugar brings up the flavor for sambal and malaysian dont put fried anchovies in their sambal...we separate our sambal and fried anchovies for a crunch effect. If you mix it, it will soggy in the sambal sauce 😊

I make nasi lemak all the time here in my house in KL. My wife too makes it. Our kids love both parents' versions. Sambal can be ikan bilis (anchovy), boiled eggs, soaked squids, regular squids, shrimps, even fried fish (my favorite fish pilchard - fry fish first before sambaling them)...

Hi there! Nasi lemak is just delicious right? Your kids are lucky to have both parents being pro in Nasi lemak 😀. Here I’m always resorting to fresh squids and shrimps for the sambal as ikan bilis is very hard to find. And let’s just forget about the dry squids 😅

Sure, nasi lemak is delicious, can't argue about that! Hahaha! It's one of the things that unites us Malaysians despite our ethnic diversity. All Malaysians regardless of ethnics, just love nasi lemak. Where are you that's it's so hard to get dried squids? USA? Well, you have to improvise. Even fried fish can make good sambal for your nasi lemak (whatever fish you have there!). We used to live in US. We improvised.

You’re totally right, regardless the ethnics we Malaysian really love our Nasi lemak. And yes, improvising is my mantra because simply things that we take for granted in Malaysia, are unbelievably impossible to get abroad. I’m in Spain and only like a bit more than a year ago I found my belacan source in an Asian store 1 hour drive from our house. I haven’t tried fried fish for Nasi lemak sambal but will definitely give it a go. Thanks for the idea! 😅😂

When we were kids in Kedah, my mom used to fry ikan tamban (pilchard, herring, sardine - whatever people call them!). She fried them real crispy. Then she made the nasi lemak sambal gravy and put in the fish in. We ate with nasi lemak. I still do my mom's recipe. There's an old Malay man selling nasi lemak every morning near my house today. He makes really delicious nasi lemak sambal. Every morning everybody (Malays, Chinese, Indians, Indonesians etc) makes a beeline to buy his nasi lemak. Well, you live in the land of paella, something I really like to try eating but the recipe is too overwhelming for me..

El Mundo Eats I’m in greece atm going back next month but for the past 6 months I have been craving malaysian, thai, chinese food!!! Recently found a place 2 hours away that sells ingredients, very expensive but worth it! Just made thai green curry and definitely going to make nasi lemak esok😂 thanks for the recipe!

Sebenarnya senang untuk memasak nasi lemak. Boleh ikut resepi ini. Nampak susah sebab ada beberapa elemen. Kalau nak lebih ringkas boleh abaikan ayam goreng berempah, just buat nasi lemak dan sambal tumis 👍😀

I had this dish for the first time in Singapore 6 yrs ago and haven't had it ever since and was craving it! I'm in Dubai now and traveled far to eat this dish, only to decide to make it! Just a note, it takes wayyy longer than the 5 min here 😂 I was wondering instead of the chili, is there anything I can substitute it to be less spicy? I used crushed chili peppers instead and it is toooo spicy for me (I can't eat spicy food). Other than that, the rice tasted and smelled amazing... And although it took a lot of work it was so worth it!

I will try to make this again, however to have a more "healthy" alternative I wonder if we can just bake the chicken or grill it. Thank you SOO much for the recipe... It's been 6years since I left Brunei and now I'm currently working here in Hongkong all the food that I've eaten when I was in Brunei I still searching where to buy here I can say that the most delicious food that I ever taste is when I was in Brunei the same taste with Indonesian and Malaysian food they are my favorite I don't eat spicy but I learn and become addicted on it when I work like 2years in Brunei I'm gonna try this I'm craving 😍😍😍😍

TQSM!!!! Finally some foreigner who make the sambal using the dried chili ONLY. Tqsm for this... coz its such a sore to my eyes being a person who live and sell nasi lemak seing recipes using fresh chilies in their sambal. The cringe is another level. Dont get me wrong... i do celebrate the diversity in the sambal recipe but seing people using red chili alone and sometimes a combination aof several chili's is a big NO for me as a malay who were taught to use dried chilies whenever we cook the sambal. The taste is different! Trust me. Again.. tqsm for this.

nasi lemak Most Likely originated from the riau bintan islands near Singaporr and Indonesia made by wives for their fishean husband. Its packed ingeniously in a coconut leaf so that it keeps fresh and fragrant and easily transportable. Its coconut milk infused ricr makes it a good source of energy. Malay trader along the Straits of Malacca picked the dish and propagated it throughout the known Malay kingdoms from Southers Thailand, Malay peninsular, Sumatera, Brunei and Sabah and Sarawak. Of course the dish was modified..the condiment which was originally dried shrimp paste was enriched with sambal when Chillies become available and the simple dish was enriched with side dishes like sambal squid, cockles and rendnag which makes the the dish palatable to all taste. The dish is flavorful with ingredients that makes up a umamo taste that everyone likes while the condents like anchovies ,cucumbers and egg add wide range of texture which pleasing. It is so far the national dish of Malaysia as all ethnicities enjoy nasi lemak. To any Malay...eating nasi lemak with your hands is a must to make it enjoyable. My favourite combination is nasi lemak with sambal squid, cow lungs and fried eggs.

Nasi lemak was mentioned in a book "The Circumstances of Malay Life", written by Sir Richard Olof Winstedt in 1909.[9][10] With roots in Malay culture and Malay cuisine, its name in Malay literally means "fatty rice",[11][12] but is taken in this context to mean "rich" or "creamy".[13] The name is derived from the cooking process whereby rice is soaked in coconut cream and then the mixture steamed. The rice is normally cooked with pandan leaves that gives it a distinctive flavour. The origin of the history of Nasi Lemak is from the land of peninsular Malaysia. Rice also became a popular food in the east coast of the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra. In the era of the Melaka sultanate, there was a pair of mothers and children named Mak Kuntum and Seri. Mak Kuntum's husband had long been killed in a battle against the enemy in the Straits of Melaka. As a result, Mak Kuntum had to work for a massage to support herself and her children. Mak Kuntum always goes out every early morning to find customers. Seri had to stay alone at home to do housework such as cooking, cleaning the house and so on. One day, Seri got tired of rice and side dishes because they cooked the same way. Therefore, Seri began to think of other ways to cook rice so that there would be a difference in the taste of the rice. First Seri put some galangal into the rice that was being cooked. After that, Seri mixed a piece of pandan leaf to serve more rice so that it can arouse his appetite and his mother. At noon, when Mak Kuntum returned home, Seri served the rice he had created to his mother. Mak Kuntum was shocked to see rice that she had never seen in her life. "Are you cooking this, Seri?" Seri's answer: "Nasi le! Mak!" The series answered repeatedly. Mak Kuntum asked Seri again. Seri replied with the same answer: "Nasi le mak!", "Nasi le mak!", "Nasi le mak!". Since that day, the rice is known as Nasi Lemak. This is right history origin nasi lemak. Haha, don't change the right history bro haha

This humble Malay peasant dish is my savior. Nowadays, it is lavished with so many varieties side dish ie d spicy fried chicken, beef or chicken rendang, just to name a few. I wonder if u cook it to your Spanish friends n do they like it?

Yes, all the time but I do need to tone down the spiciness (by lots!) and use prawns/squids instead since dry anchovies are expensive like forbidden gold here 😂
