Randy you are THE MAN! I really appreciate these sewing machine "PSAs"! If you ever decide to do in person classes on basic machine maintenance and use I would be your first student! 😆 I wish the manufacturers would imprint the type (embroidery or sewing) and size/number on the bobbins. Im extra OCD about keeping mine labeled and separated.

Good for you, for being attentive to the details. Most times, that’s all it takes to keep things running smoothly. I’m blessed to be around quilters and sew artists that can take OCD to another level. When you see the beautiful results of their efforts, it illustrates what it takes to perform at that level. Even a discarded sketch from one of the Old Master painters is worth millions as a result of their painstaking processes. My brain can’t comprehend their skill set, but it can surely appreciate it. (The best part is, they’re really nice people)👍😎

Last year I fixed a New Home 574 I did like how the 15 class hook moved with the needle bar to make a zigzag stitch. The owner had an industrial machine and was now retired from her own factory making furniture covers. She fell out with me when I said you had to test the tension on the New Home with the presser food DOWN, she just refused to understand "tension release" later I figured out all her industrial machines must not have tension release. I have a lot of very old machines and I need to think twice before putting in a new needle since I have to check how the hook works so I can thread Left to right Right to left Front to back No had one that did Back to front ;-) Some of them needed you to set the needle eye level with the needle plate and check the mark on the needle bar, all great fun. Then singer made the 15k with either a 11o'clock or 1pm bobbin case and hook depends which direction to thread the needle, just to drive me nuts I guess ;-) Yep I have tried sewing with the needle in wrong but I only did it once, so far .... all the best

Good info for sure. If your friend’s industrial machines were straight stitch machines, they most certainly had a thread release when the presser bar was raised. Maybe hers weren’t working properly. That will surely complicate the sewing process when you attempt to remove the work product from the machine, if there’s no tension release. I get called to factories to remedy that very issue quite often. 😎👍🏼

@@randyyoursewingmachineman9954 it was an old industrial machine where you could press the tension disks with your finger, it was a servo motor machine sat ontop of an oil bath with wicks to the bearings. I have a few older machine that had the finger push tab to release the tension. The Wheeler and Wilson 8 and 9 had some odd methods of tension; the WW8 had a thumb screw under the needle plate for lower tension and the tension was achieved by gripping the thread just under the dogs, very odd took me a while to get used to it since when you want to take your work out you have to turn the machine a bit further to release the lower bobbin and pull about 3 inch of lose thread manually on top . My machine is an older version and has no tension device on the bobbin. The WW8 also has an interesting way of speeding up / down the rotary hook to catch the thread In the UK WW had a smaller simpler hand wind wheel and in a case not a treadle table so different to the USA versions. You can see why Singer bought WW and used a version of the rotary hook in the Singer 201 all the best John

I wish people that NEED your wisdom would be able to go straight to you. KZitem is in charge. Sadly found that out why my Channel is not 'broadcast ' to all!

unfortunately i live somewhere with almost no sewing machine repairs and i had to drive an hour to go to a repairshop that tried to sell me a ton of machines that used wifi and USB ports! I just needed to get my kenmore machine checked out before i go off to fashion school but i wonder what are your opinions on these new machines? I couldnt imagine having to use wifi to sew.

Everyone has a “plan A”. They sometimes have a “plan B”. A “plan A” is when you have electricity in your house. A “plan B” is your candles and flashlights when the power is out. In sewing, “plan A”, is your primary sewing machine. “Plan B” is your backup machine that you use if your primary machine is out of service. I recommend to all my customers that have a new style, electronic, “plastic fantastic “ machine: Be sure to have a “plan B” that’s reliable and robust, like a Kenmore 158 series. (Front load, 15 class) When your plastic, electronic one is in the shop, waiting for replacement parts to arrive from China, it will be good to have a backup machine. (Plan B) It’s also best to have that same Kenmore machine as both plan A and B. If you can get a couple, you’ll be doing yourself a giant favor. I’m not a big fan of the new electronic, plastic machines. They provide me with an adequate standard of living, but no one in my family and circle of friends use them. Those machines are fraught with peril.

@@norhildaalvarez7592 it’s a customer’s machine that came in for service. I just stitch them out with what they provide. I don’t sell them and I’m not an expert on their accessories. There are folks on KZitem who are dealers ,who can probably answer your questions.
