Sometimes when things are told how they are - it's easier to understand. A group in this case is just a dummy coordinate system, that is oriented and translated in world space in such a way, that objects in it's local space have 0 translation and rotation.

True, but sometimes "how things are" is too technical and complicated for complete beginners. ↑ That would be complicated for a newbie. But thanks!

I was getting ahead of myself and getting exasperated at why my controller and joint axis didn't line up. I should have waited until I got to this video. I really enjoy your tutorials, you haven't missed anything. Very in depth and I appreciate it.

I explain in the video what happens if you do a FT on all controllers that are angled. Look at 3:00 you'll see that you'll loose local rotations on controllers, which is not recommended if you plan on doing this professionally. You will also run into rotational issues once you start animating if you simple do a FT.

Hello captain!!! Do we need to make controllers for every single joint ???
@AnimationMethods

Agreed. But there's so much to say. You get a 30 minute video or you get lot's of small videos. Either way, there's lots to learn! Go at your pace.

Do you not orient constraint the controller to the awkwardly angled joints?

Yes

I followed your steps to a T. Yet when I got to video 7, all hell broke loose. As soon as I parent the group with the joint it seems fine, except for one of the rotation values is already zeroed. I go ahead and highlight all values and hit zero and then enter. My circle is not orientated with the fin. It is lined up and all yet not along with fin like yours. It is in same place yet rotated outward 90 degrees. Wtf

Can we instead of using grouping, remember the flipper joint translate+rotate coordinates when creating and pass them to flipper controller later ?
@davidytchannel462
10 жыл бұрын
No that won't work because that would leave values in the controllers channel box. If you do a freeze transformations that would reset your local rotation. The group control methods will allow you to keep zero values in your channel box and also your local rotation.

Man you explain everything so great. Thanks a lot. I also have a question. You keep saying animator guys need to understand our rig. So do you mean that there are riggers, animators, FX guys, compositors etc? For example; can one person make an ocean, model a shark, rig it, animate it to jump out of the ocean, create splashes... ?
@AnimationMethods

+Berk Erdag That would be a generalist artist. Someone who knows a little bit about everything. But in professional studios they don't really hire generalists in California. They hire 1 artist to do 1 job. This way its faster for production then having to wait on one person to do it all. Don't get me wrong. There are some studios that hire generalists to do small/quick tasks or where the project lasts quite a while. But knowing how to rig/animate will increase your changes of getting hired. Animators don't really go into composite.

so in the end. pretty confusing, can you copy the controllers and place them and adjust them as usual? or do all that stuff you did?
@AnimationMethods

+Gr8awakeningz tocome It's better practice to follow as I show in the lessons. Speeds things up to just move over all controllers over instead of one by one. But you can certainly do them individually again on the other side. It will just take longer than what I show :)

***** I think you wanted to say... People (normal or not) have the clocks of their brains working at very different speed and until proper optimization, the values brain-memory must be as close as possible. Also, the process (aka video-tutorial) must not reach the full cycle time, for preventing a BVOD (blank vision of DEATH). Just kidding. Thanks for being slow, you are saving so many lives right now.
