We only spend $200 a month on groceries, and that includes anything you buy at the grocery store: shampoos, toilet paper, all hygiene and cleaning products. We raise chickens for meat and eggs, I sell the extra eggs to offset the cost of feed. We also have a big garden and lots of grapes and fruit trees. So this way we get some organic food we normally can't afford.

+Daniella Moreno Remember to put non-monthly expenses like birthday presents, Christmas presents and vacation into your budget. Setting aside a little money each paycheck for those items helps you to avoid debt.

I like the word budget. I can't just spend my money freely, I have to give myself a spending budget lol

We like the word budget too! For us a budget gives us the freedom to know how much we CAN spend on dinner out at a restaurant without jeopardizing money that was set aside for car repair, food, clothes, house payment or other priorities. We can truly enjoy spending what we have set aside for specific purposes - - - that's true financial freedom!

+Daniella Moreno The simplest way is to start with what you have been spending. So go back for the last 2 or 3 months and then create a plan using those monthly totals. If your spending is greater than your income, then you'll have to reduce your spending in the optional / discretionary categories. Don't start by making your budget super tight . . . you'll never be able to stick with it. Be realistic and then look for ways to save. You'll do it!

Way to go! It really not about how much you earn, as it is the attitude you have. Being committed to live on what you have, with creativity and joy, can make a little go a long way! We'd love to hear more of your story.

So true. Now my husband makes more, but I still have to find ways to save. You never know when an unexpected expense is going to crop up. With todays prices that happens a lot. And I have learnt a lot more from watching your videos thanks.

+Ssupermom12000 you are so sweet. So many people look at frugality as a burden and something to mock. We see the upside and benefit. It's easy to find discounts and deals when that's your lifestyle and attitude. And if your income increases, it's easy to spend a little more, but you'll still always be looking for, and finding deals. It's much harder to go from a free spending, extravagant lifestyle to an austere one.
