Hello. Can you tell why the the car sometimes judders when moving into 1st gear at traffic lights, or roundabouts...Thank you.......Ireland.

If it is while you are releasing the clutch, it sounds like clutch chatter. It would do it in reverse starting off as well. Clutch chatter causes are warped flywheel (this video shows that measurement), or possibly a rear main seal type leak contaminating the disc.

Hi from India. i do have VW Vento 1.2L (automatic), and its just 18000 km on the meter, but the mechanic said that my flywheel is rusty and need to replace it, and cost about US$ 500 approx. should i get it done?
@paulkelley86

Ideally you could have it resurfaced. But if that is not an option and the rust is on the face where the friction contacts then you should, otherwise the clutch will not work correctly

What was name of that grinder you had to resurface?
@paulkelley86
2 жыл бұрын
Its just an angle die grinder and a roloc disc we normally call a cookie disc. That's just a method to freshen it up. The better bet would be to replace or have a machine shop resurface it if there is any visual defects or runout.

Ok here is the question my clutch bad I know it is time to change but there is very slight vibration on the pedal.so do you think flywheel needs to change or do you think my clutch is bad that is why?
@paulkelley86

It could be the release (throw out bearing) puking. But it could be flywheel runout too.

I've been told a damaged flywheel can make my car miss when idling, why would it make the engine miss fire?
@paulkelley86
6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm... I have never seen that. I don't see how it would cause a misfire. If it were out of balance I could see it cause a vibration. Rarely the flywheel will have a reluctor wheel for the crankshaft position sensor, which could cause some timing/spark issues but I wouldn't expect it to be a misfire. What vehicle is it?
@pumpkinking365

Yeah, I thought it was strange but I'm no expert. Also I'm sure its the flywheel as its vibrates when using the clutch and it has that horrid rattle when its idling and if you press the clutch it stops rattling. The car is a VW Golf 1.9 TDi 2007 sport.

Hey mate got a question might be hard, I have a loud tapping sound coming from behind the engine/gearbox, I replaced both gearbox and transfer case and it still makes the noise, only makes it when clutch is engaged but car revs fine and gearbox is smooth, any idea if it's the flywheel
@paulkelley86

Cracked flywheel can cause that, but if equipped it could also be a dual mass flywheel. Based on the "mate" I'm gonna guess you may be Australian or similar, a lot of your vehicles use dual mass flywheels.

@@Jimmycleans oh yeah dual mass flywheel very common on small diesels like that. We don't have those here so I can't speak from particular experience but I think you are on the right track with the flywheel idea. Now when you say clutch engaged I assume you mean literally clutch disc engaged aka pedal released?
@Jimmycleans

@@paulkelley86 yeah the clutch pedal is all the way out, but if it was flywheel wouldn't it consistently make the noise as the car was revving rather then when in gear
@paulkelley86

@@Jimmycleans kzitem.info/news/bejne/wHyZqoOngZOnaqQ This should help. Sometimes the noises don't exactly follow the rules but the idea is if there clutch pedal out (clutch engaged) it puts more load on the dual mass flywheel in addition to turning the transmission input shaft.
