Yeah I use my NEXT% 2 for training as prefer the NEXT% 1 as they fit me better but got lots more of them which also use a lot and even for long steady road runs sometimes. Compared to "flats" I used to use for "fast" training, the big difference is not really that they help you go faster (in training that does not really matter) but allow you to recover more quickly. I would be sore for a few days after those sort of intervals in say regular adios of the past. With the shorter stuff I feel that you need, as you have found, bit of time to get used to it. Largely why in my track days often needed a few 800/1500 races before could do my best. Different to longer races where you do a block, taper, race and then think what to do next.

Yeah I totally understand that, I feel like my body is finally getting used to these intervals but its taken a few weeks for sure! Totally different beast to half marathon training!

Great video Andy!! By the way I put on the Next % yesterday in intervals that I was sure they would be very hard cause of the distance (1500 m) and the weather (it is extremely hot in Brazil this time of the year). They did so well and frankly I cant see another shoe in my rotation able to make me deal with so hard conditions.

I absolutely love my vaporfly's! I personally only ever use them on race day as I feel even lighter and faster which gives me a lot more confidence on race day! But I have a friend who also trains in them weekly as she says she recovers really well in them so I agree I think there pretty good for everything! :)

Great video and definitely interesting, I've not tried out the Next%'s at all yet. I used my Deviate Nitro's for my last hard session on Tuesday as I started my taper week this week, 8x 800m with 1 minute rest, hit 2:36-2:39 on every rep (not my fastest 800m time) but I've never held the reps at that speed and consistent!

@@TheFODRunner Thanks! Not quite what you'll be hitting, but I'm super happy with them! Hopefully I can take some of that speed + the strength I'm building this winter into some better 5km and 10km times next year!

Another banger video Andy! First to the plate debate. The research clearly shows that the plate helps stabilize the midsole and it’s the foam with that stability that helps benefit the runner. Anyway it’s great to see the versatility of the Nike. I’ve decided to take the plunge and buy a pair and give them a go. Thanks for all the information regarding this shoe in this video and the others you’ve done on it.

Great video. I’d love to see what your interval times would be (same course) on a non-plated light weight shoe for comparison. Just to see how much of a responder you are to the Next%.

Agree with everything you say there Andy. For me Vaporfly is the best shoe out there, very light, neutralises any pronation, and carbon propulsion. Did do an interval session once in them and averaged about 20s faster per 1km repeat, also sent an instant 10k in them (first use).

Looking at my history on strava, virtually all my intervals are done in plated shoes. Carbon x2 leading the way from Saucony Speeds, then Pro 2 and finally the VF2. The feeling after acing an interval session is invaluable to keep training going strong. Added to that it is good to have some mileage in these "super" shoes rather than putting them on for the first time when we line up at a race, get comfortable wearing them first.
