2:03 Facts about “Kimi wa dekinai ko" In this song, a mother tells his son many times how useless he is, and that she'll always have to take care of him. She repeatadly tells him this, until he has enough. The song shows him fade off the screen, and I can theorize that symoblizes him either leaving or commiting suicide. The mother then calls herself a useless child, and says "that child is no more." She expresses how the child “left her and how lonely she is now that they are gone. She says how she wishes she could revert time so the child would not leave. The video then ends with the mom fading out and the song going "Aah!!!!!". I beleive this symbolises her also commiting suicide like the child.
@eee2228

I also noticed that the mom after the son's suicide, speaks in the same way as the son but it still is kanji. Any thoughts on that?
@Fishy77777

You say she contradicts herself but I think that actually she isn’t, She’s telling the child that they are useless and insulting them and all that- so that they’ll end up depending on the mother because they’ll think they can’t do anything on there own since they are so “useless” saying stuff like “I’ll protect you since your so useless”. You also missed a line where the mother says “a child who’d be dead if it wasn’t for me”. And then after they left, the mother realizes “oh sh*t I messed up” and calls herself a useless child and wishes she could undo what she did
@shooshiMooshi

@@U_z_e_r_n_a_m_e not really, it's just a manipulative tactic abusive people do to get, as they said, people to depend on the abuser by insulting them at their weakest and manipulating them to think that the abuser/s are the only people who could 'love' them by letting them know how; "you're such a kind friend" "you're a good child" these kind of things make the abused unable to complain because they have to be always kind or good as they're complimented and would like to keep it that way and sadly enough go deep enough to believe everything they say because again, they 'love' them. This gives abusers an opportunity to insult and lash out to them while having them cling tight on their pinky. Edit: add gaslighting i guess in my understanding is more of questioning someone's reasoning and judgement to the point of insanity. Some examples like if someone touched you in areas you dont feel comfortable to being touched and you tell them to stop and they say something along the lines of "i'm just touching you, no need to overreact" making you thing you're the bad person for overreacting over 'just touching' . A streamer, destiny, had a good analogy to this Let's say the action of the situation is a bar, graph bar type of thing. The gaslighter did something that's 90% wrong and of course, you'd point that out but they will minimize the bad part by only addressing the 10% 'good' of the act then they'll judge the way you thought it was all bad.
@LeynaSept

Her saying that she's a useless child hinted to her probably having called herself the same thing in the past and being forced to believe the same thing as a kid by a parent. And so she repeated the cycle with her child but it didn't work.

Small theory: so we all get the point- this song is about a mom who emotionally abuses her child by saying that he is a useless child, and he is abused up to the point when he is grown up. The writing when he is a kid looks colorful and uses hiragana. But when he grows up, it's less colorful, neater, and uses kanji. I'm thinking the kid used to write down all the things his mom said to him in a journal or a notebook of some sort and continued to write them down up until he grows up. The two figures, which is the kid and the mom was also drawn by the kid. Furthermore, the title of the song that shows up, in the beginning, seems kinda messy, which could mean that he titled this journal of his "You are a useless child". Then, when he disappears, (died, ran away, or something) the mom finds the notebook he's been writing everything in, and as she reads them, she realizes she was the useless and terrible person all along. She reads what the boy wrote as a kid, so the writing is back to hiragana and it's more colorful.

So, this really reminds me of Tangled. Mother Gothel raises Rapunzel to think the outside world is terrifying and that she'll never survive out there without her "mother" but then goes on to console Rapunzel and tells her that mother will protect her. Its a bit different in this situation but just wanted to point that out.

The root of this song is emotional manipulation through abuse, where in the mother tells the child that they cannot live without her because they are useless on their own. And this happens in real life a surprising amount, but it’s never called out because that’s how some of the older generation was taught how to teach their own children, using fear, guilt, and ridicule. Edit: Something I forgot to mention also is that the Mother (or guardian) is lonely as well, and without their child, they feel lonely. So at the end of the song, they call themselves 'useless' for not being able to take care of the one thing that made them not lonely

I always interpreted the line "Yet I fell in love with that sobbing, which came from that mouth that couldn't even say your own name" a little differently. I don't know if I can explain this right, but bear with me here! So, when you give birth to a baby, hearing them cry the first time can make you feel - besides being relieved - a huge amount of love towards them. It doesn't have to be just crying, it can be anything about them that can make you "fall in love": laughing, their appearance, their breathing as they sleep, how they grab onto your finger with their little hand, etc. (but because newborn babies mostly cry at first, that's why I thought it might be that). So I believe the mom did love the kid to some degree, but she was also dependent on him. Possibly from the beginning when he was born. It's like her kid was what gave meaning to her life in a way, it's what made her feel important, and that's why she didn't want to let him go, making him also dependent on her by the abuse she inflicted. I think the mom originally might have had issues like low self-esteem, that she projected onto her child.

yesssss, i was also thinking the same thing! that maybe the reason why the mother was so contradictory was because she was actually projecting herself unto the child, that it was actually herself that she thinks as useless and stuff and that she wanted him to depend more on her more by degrading and gaslighting him. or this might also be the case of her unconsciously abusing him not realising that her child grew up so wounded and scarred because that was the only way for her to show her love and care.

Kikuo's music always seems to be a banger but you are fully aware you shouldn't dance to it- it's almost like Kikuo wants you to take your trauma's hand and dance with it. You absolutely hit bang on to the meaning of the song, once again very enjoyable to listen to what you thought about the song. I just love how his songs tackle and puts forth many issues we all face in today's society but no one dares talk about, that's why I think his songs can be really therapeutic for some of us struggling and going through similar things as they show in the songs. In the Japanese lyrics in the beginning they used hiragana and it was colorful in like crayon written style when he was a child then it changed to kanji in just plain black/gray after he grew up. I think she kept saying she'll protect him and save him to only make him stay

I read a book called ‘earthlings’ that had been translated over from Japanese (sorry for forgetting the author’s name), in which the protagonist was shit on by her mum and the people around didn’t really do anything about it. Like it was a normal occurrence for mothers to vent aggression on their kids. My parents never did that to me, but reading the book, I felt awful for the protagonist, and was shocked that the mother was shocked with the outcome at the end (it was a bit out there, I won’t spoil it, but the person who left the review of ‘weird and funny’ has a weird sense of humour).

Hey✌️ 2021's almost over, lesgoo. Also, i absolutely _LOVE_ this dude sm. He's what I've been needing. A person who reacts to stuff on internet, and actually does a commentary on it which isn't only questions or silence❗✨👏

This song was my gateway to Kikuo and the darker sides of vocaloid, first time I heard it I was amazed that a song this catchy and poignant could exist. It really cemented my descent into weebdom, and I couldn't be more grateful ♡

Just like kikuo was the reason you started reacting to songs, you're the reason i knew kikuo..and love their songs. My favourite now is "O Light" by them but honestly all of kikuo's song is very catchy depite its lyrics. Hope you can react to O Light coz i wanna see your thought about it😁😁😁

YAYY ANOTHER KIKUO SONG

Fun fact, when I was younger I thought this was basically about a toxic friend dynamic and the one who is being called useless constantly just ran away and got a better friend. My original interpretation the child didn’t even die but revisiting the song after a while I realized oh the child did die but I didn’t realize until watching this video it was about a mother verbally abusing her child. I saw this song via a meme at first and then listen to the full thing when I was like 14/15 I am 17 right now.

This song kinda reminds me of weakness from milgram , but like, reverse perspective and a different outcome. The links there , but definitely vague lol, or maybe I'm just brainroting too hard

Yeah I hope he reacts to Milgram songs soon, they're all amazing!! I want him to react to Bring It On the most tho, since that song is kinda from the "villain's" perspective.

This song is so catchy but literally makes me want to cry. I did first see this song with translations but it just made me relate to the song since you know whole family is... I just got to wait a few more years until I become a adult 😁 :D

As a little fun fact, When the child is a kid, the Japanese lyrics are mostly hiragana and katakana (the most basic alphabet in Japanese and what children start learning, I imagine so that the child can understand), then, when he grows up, lyrics are now written with kanji, and a more adult writing, meaning how he’s maturing and growing, also the mother insults turn more sophisticated bc of the age. Still, when she addresses him as a child in “a cute child, a good child, you belong to me” returns to the initial hiragana. Also this is more of an observation, but when the child leaves, the typography changes to a more round one, so it means the mother is now the one writing and saying that to herself. I love how kikuo represented each character with a different way of writing. (Also, English is not my first language, sorry for any misspelling)

Yeah my family are quite toxic with mental health issues & my older brother is constantly reminding me how bad I’m doing in school or life in general. Or how I can’t do anything without fucking it up. Tonight I was having a fit of sadness on a chat server thing & someone just said “if you want to die so much then die..” it’s so hard but watching your videos make me happier & actually feel like someone understands.. keep being amazing🤍
