Here's a crazy idea. Crystal Skull was awful but it did introduce us to Indy and Marion's child, Mutt and saw Indy finally marrying Marion. Let's imagine a prestige series, ala Young Indy TNG: Mutt is attending classes at University, perhaps even one taught by his Dad where he is working his way to an archaeology degree. Mutt isn't a gifted academic, he might even have a touch of dyslexia, but he's toughing his way through. Mutt still has his bike shop where he sleeps in a small back room. This gives an excuse to constantly be having gorgeous vintage bikes in various states of disassembly wandering through the background. He visits his parents from time to time, maybe for Thanksgiving Dinner. People still come to Indy with their problems despite his advanced age. Indy has a something, and needs to be hospitalized, the mission has to go, he calls on Mutt. Mutt goes off to solve whatever the problems is/find the lost artifact/steal the military secret/etc. There could be one or more beautiful good girls back home who help Mutt in school and beautiful/dangerous girls in the world maybe a Soviet agent and/or some sort of rival agent from business/other academic institutions etc. Lots of globe trotting in the fifties and sixties, kind of Indiana Jones meets Mad Men. Probably would have to recast Shia. I think it could do well.

Grew up in the era of the Saturday afternoon kids matinee. For fifty cents admission you got 10 cartoons, a short feature and a serial. The Indiana Jones movies reminds me of the cliffhangers of yesteryear. I had a somewhat dismal childhood and movies and TV back then were an escape from those troubles. Todays films take the innocence out of a kids life by presenting them with concepts they're not ready to deal with. And the fun of going to the movies for adults.

Yes, doesn't make sense, it seems the art director for the CGI artists probably failed to do any serious research, came up with it. Vertical tails were never placed at midspan, this would increase loads on the airframe and possibly causing flutter and drag. This would also interfere with the rear top gunner's field of fire, bad idea. Small twin tails used as endplates worked well, however, increasing control and the effective span of the tail, see the various examples. Also, see Heinkel's 219 and 274 4 engine aircraft designs for inspiration, apparently not considered here.

They got the Recipe wrong. Apparently the opening Act, so about 30 or so minutes with Past Indy was really Good, but then tanks immediately afterwards as if written by the songwriter for the Spice Girls. The chosen McGuffin is Outside the Subgenre as Chamberlain points out, it Doesn't Belong because that's a Scifi Scifantasy Gimmick Type and Not a Archeological Adventurer Vs Lethal Grade Competition Vs a Mystical/Supernatural/Magic Grade McGuffin, Usually Inspired by Real World History and MYTHOLOGY. There are a literal FukTon of Amazing things from our Real History with Allllll the Proper Ingredients to make this true Classic Beef and Potatoes Dinner Feast that is Americana and Pure Indiana Jones. Crystal Skull Started with those elements then turned the Skulls from Human Shaped to Alien Greys Skulls, the Ancient Ruins were just a Decorated Camouflage for a Trans dimensional Flying Saucer. The Skulls should have led to Some Treasure of Some Sort, something that Would be of Immense Value. It, like the Ark of the Covenant could Also be Extremely Dangerous. For instance it is Rumored that the Actual Ark, Supposedly, in Somalia I think, has Guardians...who go Blind from their close proximity to the artefact, medical examinations of those rotated out guards results are in line with Radiation damage. The Key is Separating the Real World Implications of such a thing in a Fiction from a Science Based explanation and Keeping it in the Mystical and Supernatural explanation to stay in like with the Indiana Jones franchise. How many Indiana Jones titles can You come up with that fall in line with this Specific Sub Genre? I'll throw a few of my own down here and feel free if any catch hour attention as Worthy inferred story ideas. Indiana Jones: The Road to ATLANTIS (Self explanatory) Indiana Jones and The Knights Templar (In a National Treasure kinda vein) Indiana Jones and The Underworld of Egypt. (Apparently there's an entire City under some of the big temples and pyramids with a whole Lore behind it that I found Immensely intriguing. So Kinda Temple of Doom like but instead of the Mining Temple, it's an Egyptian Land of the Dead Undercity full of traps and Spirits safeguarding something Bad Guys would Kill Hundreds or Thousands even to attain.) Indiana Jones and the Golden Fleece Indiana Jones and the Dragon of Shangri-La Indiana Jones: Pandoras Box Indiana Jones and the Spear of Destiny (because every few stories it's an easy go to do an Adventure in Christian Mythology with two thirds of the OT trilogy being inspired by that. Kind of a trilogy of themed stories within the franchise.) Indiana Jones and the Terracotta Army (gets a little close to a Tomb Raider / The Mummy feel though) Indiana Jones and The Horn of Valhalla I think Any one of these ideas would have worked quite well. Let's hear Yours? I bet the list we all come up with could Embarrass Lucasfilm, KK and Disney if published on it's own.

I agree, these are possible ideas for good movies. However, during the period when these could have been made Harrison Ford was booked solid with blockbuster film projects that he chose to do instead. A story treatment is not a screenplay, and stars, directors, and producers need to be brought together to sign off for it to have a chance in a competitive market.
