Dude, this is an amazing video. Thanks for your hard work and posting this. I'm a complete noob when it comes to RAM tuning. I will be using your guide to OC my Trident Z B-die kit (3200mhz 14-14-14-34) on my i9 11900k running on an MSI MEG z490 ACE. I have 4x8GB sticks, so we'll see how much that limits my OC. As it stands now, I have it running at 3733 15-15-15-35. I will message back when I get the mem oc dialed in. Thanks again :)

Great work explaining the process! The only critique I can offer is that tRDRD_sg and tWRWR_sg at 6 seemed to actually reduce performance compared to running it at 7 in my testing

I saw a small benefit, but is very subjective to the memory kit and motherboard, with time I want to test other combos and double check this 👍
@TheDoomerBlox

I observe the same behaviour on 2x8 on LGA1700 - except it's 6 vs. 8 (because 7 only works in dual-rank) The performance benefit at 6 may possibly be related to a 2-DIMM layout, but it also depends on the command-rate and what you run tRAS as. At 2T lower = better lolol, at 1T it's a bruteforce mystery of high and low values. at 1T with tRAS = tCL+tRCD (Samsung B, Microns want tCL * 3 instead), _sg 6 was noticeably slower than 8 on this daisy 4-DIMM board by the way, fun trick; you can run twice the lowest stable RTP value, it'll likely be stable, and then slam tRP into the ground (-2 to -4 of tCL, usually), and if you're a silly person who runs tRFC as a multiple of tRC (tRAS + tRP) this means dropping that too whether you double the lowest stable tWR alongside RTP or not, depends on whether you care about long-haul stability or minor performance improvements

Nice vid mate, a lot of information to digest, still even after watching it several times I cannot manage to set my Patriot Viper Steel 4000Mhz cas 19 b-die to gear 1 on my MSI B560i+11400f combo. Not sure what I am doing wrong, set the voltage even to 1.5 v, tried the "MEM Try It!" msi feature which has a profile of 4000 Gear 1, maybe you can give me a pointer on what I should look on, some stated that gear 1 is only available for memory running at 3200MHz, but then it is a bit strange why the motherboard has already a preset profile of 4000 MHz Gear1. Any input is welcomed, thank you!

@HardwareNumb3rs

What gives gain are the secondary and tertiary timings, that the motherboard use almost always conservative values, tuning only the primaries is almost useless without all the others, I know isn't easy, but no pain no gain :D

I want faster ram but the spec list on the manufacturers website explicitly said, the fastest ram supported is less than 3200hz, less than 3000hz in fact(without overclocking). Does it matter if my motherboard doesn't support fast ram natively, I thought all z590-i motherboards supported 3200hz out the box?

It depends on the region and market segment. I'd say only 5800x or 5900x is worth it for the higher end segment IF you can get it at MSRP. 5600x and other Zen 2 parts are poorly priced for the segment of the market they are competing in. 5600x alone is more expensive than 11400F + B560 board + $25 aftermarket cooler combo here in Asia. All you'll be getting is only 5-10% more performance with an RTX 3090. The big factor here is the GPU that you'll be pairing with the CPU. You won't see a difference in gaming between11400F, 11600k & 5600x with something sensible like 3060 or 3060 Ti. But to be honest, I doubt someone building new with mid to lower end CPU's can buy a 3060 or 3060 Ti at their current prices, most of them will be pairing it with a 1660 Super or 2060 Super at best.
