I am touched! still slightly bummed you didn't give dumbbell options for those of us without barbells (been an SP members since 2021 and I'm used to customize to whatever we have at home) but I still felt more included in the inaugural NOpen than the Crossfit Open. I paid for both, but due to equipment requirements I couldn't get a single official workout in the CF Open :(( and that pissed me off! CF did cross promo with Street Parking so I was expecting them to offer scaling/equipment customization similar to SP, but no such luck :( thank you @hillerfit for holding a fun competition without having much time to prep ;)

I’m pregnant and just started Street Parking about a month ago. I LOVE the versatility and I love that they have TONS of flexibility and modifications for pregnant/postpartum moms! It encourages you to pay attention to your body and recognize its limits, and to recognize that those limits can change day by day! Some days I can do the entire workout as prescribed and stay in the recommended timeframe, some days I can even do the extra challenge, and other days I scale or modify based on how I’m feeling that day. I feel like I’ve learned to give my body a lot more grace and take care of it instead of constantly pushing it and being disappointed when it’s capable of less than I want it to be. After all, a lot of us are after longevity and being able to do more as we age, not just PRs and muscle ups.

Functional fitness, some body building and zero drama. I love Crossfit but I have just one hour a day to spend on this subject matter and (for me) its in the gym and this channel. Crossfit started it all and will survive but the evolution of the practice of the methodology can’t be stopped. Street Parking, FBB, OTF, F45, Madabolic, etc. The menu has grown, pick whatever meal works for you and enjoy.

Here’s my thoughts (I know you were dying to hear them). We don’t really have SP in the UK. From what I understand it’s a methodology that allows for scaling? Less competitive? Done where and when you like? Fitness Freedom! I’m not totally sure, but it sounds decent. My concern (for myself) is that yes I am a working dad with 2 kids working long hours and dodgy knees/neck, but I fear if I lose what CF box gives me and I “settle” for accepting my tougher conditions than the 22 year stud with no responsibilities or age related issues that I’m headed down a slippery slope. I don’t want to let myself think it’s ok to choose what weight/reps/kit to use. I don’t want to “do what I can”. I want to feel obliged to perform with the younguns to keep me on my toes and performing. I hope that makes some sort of sense. Again, I’m not totally up to speed with SP and I fully understand that others are in very different places in life so I am in no way diminishing them, SP or the differences, but for me (from what I gather) I personally feel I need the obligation and accountability against the young lads/lasses.
@raejoy87

I agree. I’ve seen my friends on SP go through exactly what you’re referencing. It’s ironic because original CrossFit was “leave your ego at the door” & here we are developing all these things to play to people’s egos - you can’t just have Rx & Scaled, here’s how you Rx this option & this option to infinity so no one has to scale. Ultimately the goal is just get people doing fitness, off the couch, moving, yes - just like Zumba does, F45, OTF…they’re just not CrossFit.
@mirandaalcaraz-nv1pi

Not sure where my original reply to this went - but I think you might be making assumptions without seeing what we offer with the program. We offer suggested loading - but place priority on finishing the workout within the goal range over using a specific load. Every workout is designed with an intended stimulus - and too often people have a mindset that the “RX” weight trumps the stimulus. It doesn’t. A 15 minute Fran with 95# is not bad or wrong - it’s just not what Fran is intended to train. Also - we use the word customize because changing something in the workout doesn’t necessarily make it “easier”. Members are encouraged to choose the gear that’s available to them, the version that they either enjoy OR need to work on, and to challenge themselves as much as they can - while still hitting the goal range. That might mean that some members go UP in weight - remember “RX” mentality will also build a ceiling - as will only working as hard as you need to work to beat the people in the 6am class. Our culture is designed as you vs the workout. We believe that this NEED to beat another person in order to push yourself - can actually be a big weakness. Can you push yourself to give your very best FOR yourself? How powerful is that mindset? Would love for the OP here to shoot us an email. This program is designed for the exactly what you describe.

@@mirandaalcaraz-nv1pi Hey Miranda. Thank you for replying. I apologise if my post came across in any way other than speculative. I owned a box for 8 years and have been crossfitting for 12 (nowhere near as long as you guys), and went through the phases. I preached exactly what you’ve explained. I made sure everyone kept the goal in mind rather than rx mentality or leaderboarding. My core demographic was 42 year old female with 2.2 kids so my ethos was always do what you do. My original post was more aimed at my own training. I’m now approaching 40 and have gone from being the 27 athlete to the guy who is trying his best to keep up but contends with family life and injuries. (Which I’m very happy doing - no complaints here) My fear with stepping away from cf, leaderboard, comparison is that although I know health and longevity trump high level performance (for which I’m not anyway) that once I allow myself to take one step away from the path I’ve trodden for so long, that I’ll lose that edge that I get from it. I guess it’s almost a fear of retiring? Silly as that sounds. I’ve always made sure scaling appropriately, reaching required stimulus and focussing on my performance is central to my training. So in some respects yes I totally see what you’re saying about SP being on point for me. On the other hand is what I already do at my box my own version of it? I’m not sure. Again, I claim no knowledge of the specifics of your program and I would love to give it a go. Thanks again for replying and congratulations on your success.

SP member for almost a year. The attitude that "it's not Crossfit" is part of why I will never join a box. Why does it matter to anyone else if I RX or scale? If I do a lift or movement that I'm not familiar with or not good at, I'm not going to sacrifice form and risk injury for the sake of my ego or what other people think. I could not care less if what I'm doing has a label or not: the important part is I get off my butt every day and move in a way I enjoy. I've gone from not being able to do one burpee to doing 60 of them in this morning's workout. If I didn't spend a year pushing myself out of my comfort zone with SP, I never could have done that. I don't need a box, I have a community of thousands that inspire me everyday. What Miranda and Julian have created is absolutely amazing and I'll be a member for life ❤

The Nopen was a fantastic event to be involved in and what an honor to be included in the video. I wasn't going to place high, but I could follow instructions and standards and so I tried to do that here and in any CrossFit (or activity) I'm involved in. Sure it takes time, and actually reading everything AND following it! That's what I loved about this event, since it brought CrossFit back to following standards and movements and holding people responsible for poor measuring, poor videoing, poor movement, and everything else that should be expected to be followed! How can we preach proper movement and accountability in workouts when the HQ of it all doesn't do this in a top level competition? Until there is new leadership though, don't expect anyone at CrossFit to do the one thing that would solve the issues of poor movement, poor standards, poor following of instructions and that is to invalidate videos from the very top athletes. Harsh? Perhaps. I guarantee you that no one would take chances or give excuses for not doing it correctly and the athletes would self police this. Anyway, thanks again Andrew for a blast of a time and looking forward to NOpen 2024!

I see some recurring themes off and on in your videos ever since the first time I saw your Dave Lipson one. And it’s the frustration you seem to have with the image these athletes put on for marketing purposes and how they misuse the trust with people who initially followed them as fitness inspiration. I’ve had the massage tools, the scrapers, the power dot, done the programs, all that shit. It’s just not realistic for people who don’t make fitness their full time outside of whatever their real job is. When I managed an affiliate for 3 years (coaching 4 classes a day) I was in the most elite shape I’ve ever been in. My Apple Watch showed almost 1000 active cals burned a day, 17-20k steps, 2-3 hours of training. I remember Spealler giving a seminar at my gym and finishing a wod with him, trailing by a few minutes (he had driven to my gym in Virginia from Ohio, stepped out to workout). I was still a fraction of what the elite are and that’s mostly due to my nutrition and recovery at the time. So seeing how much work it actually takes to be a fraction of as good as these people, it makes me even more mad the way these people shamelessly plug whatever bull shit they’re selling to a market of middle aged moms and accountants just trying to be healthy. I’ve been street parking for 2 months and it just works for where I’m at now. I’ve been following Miranda since OG CrossFit days and she’s authentic and I love that. Thanks for fighting the good fight Hiller and continuing to address alll the problems I’ve had with Cf all along. I just had kids and a family and don’t get to do that thing like you proudly get to 😂.

@@hillerfit frankly unless you’ve been involved in marketing to a degree, I think the average person really is ignorant to marketing tactics. People really really think Brook Wells used all the products she promotes, or any of these athletes are really going to the games on 400 calorie meals from trifecta foods. Cmon man gimme a break 😂. You’ll never get the real context because I think sincerity is inversely proportional to money, power, fame, in most (not all) of these influencers.
