Jan and I did this trip the day after we kayaked the Cathedral Cove trip (See • Kayaking Cathedral Cov... for that video) We set off from Hahei Beach and headed south (Opposite direction to Cathedral Cove) we intended to get to the Orua Sea Cave and return, a much longer kayak than the previous day. Before we go any further, we have to say for a kayaking experience, for us this is a superior trip than Cathedral Cove. Now while Kayaking Cathedral Cove is knockout spectacular; this is next level. More breathtaking, more dramatic scenery, and as a kayaker you get to be more actively involved in exploring the ocean and shoreline.
Just a few of the many significant points of interest on route is the Te Pare Point, Te Pupuha Point, passing between the magnificent rock stacks, kayaking into and exploring inside the eerily beautiful, and stunning Wai Ora Ana (Cooks) Blowhole, and of course the impressive cavernous Orua Sea Cave. There is much more I could mention, but you’re just going to have to go and see for yourself. (Hopefully this video will give you an idea of what to expect.)
As I mentioned to enjoy and explore the route there is more kayaking involved than the Cathedral Cove trip. We did see several organised motorised boat trips during the 4 hours we were out. What we did not see were other kayakers. We have our own kayaks, so we please ourselves where we go, and what we do.
This is only our personal suggestion, but we would advise this route is not for novice kayakers. I’m not sure if the local kayak hire companies would recommend or allow customers to take their kayaks on this route.
To improve your viewing enjoyment please watch on a big screen and in 4K if you can
