This and Curt's other videos are great! With it, I've been able to begin to repair a fleet of projectors. The broken solenoid link is a theme, also cracked manual focus pinion gears. Watching the contents +/- 30 seconds of installing the plunger and magically rotating into place. The video is so much better than the PDF or pre-printed docs that come with a repair kit. All very do-able. The key to me is his large channel-lock pliers that have the holes drilled thru the jaws. It makes it possible to press-fit the white gear onto the shaft. No need to stack a 1/4 or 5/16 socket (or metric equivalent) onto the end of the gear. Easy-peasy as the Brits would say. Great advice, great product

I just stumbled on my old Custom 850H and your video was the first I found while searching for any info on repairs I expect to have to do once I fire it up. Fingers crossed it's not a basket case, but thanks to your video I have a good idea what I'm getting into with this older equipment.

Followed the video using the repair kit, needing all of it (all 3 pieces were broken). The larger gear on the focusing assembly was impossible to install without enlarging the center hole to accommodate the larger shaft. And, of course, the solenoid plunger was "difficult", but finally installed. For some reason (later to be investigated) the focusing assembly doesn't work, but that can be done manually. I now have my 40+ year old machine (Ektagraphic AF-2) back. Thanks.

Great video. Very well done and very informative. There are very few people interested in repairing old technology, a time when things were built to last. Old sewing machines are fun too.

Wow, a few years ago when I tried to use my folks' old slide projector and it would not advance the carousel, I figured it was just done for. It's in very good condition, only thing I can recall ever being done to it was replacing the bulb once or twice. I'm going to have to find this new plastic link kit and give this repair a try. I can do it as long as I don't foul something else up. Thank you for the video.

Curt, Thank you for your very helpful tutorials. I successfully used your 750H Slides Not Advancing one on our personal projector, and did the same on a friend’s 760H projector. However, on his projector the focus is just way off. I looked at your video of the 850H repair with the automatic focus motor, but I guess I don’t understand how or what that focus light does that adjusts the focus. On his 760H the focus light illuminates, and the focus motor gears turn, but nothing seems to happen. I don’t have the focus or target slides that you show in your video. Are those necessary, or can I just use an actual slide? Also shouldn’t I be able to manually bring a slide into focus with the 760H machine? Because I cannot focus a slide even with that.

One of the Kodak Carousel repair kits uses a cotter pin instead of a rivet. Do you think that is a good substitution or not? Thanks!

Hi Curt, I have a Kodak Carousel 600 that will not show the slide. It takes the slide when I hit select then the light goes on the screen and then instantly goes dark. It’s seems like there is something that is suppose to move Out of the way so the slide can be projected, but it is blocked. Is there something that causes that that I can fix ?

Curt: Have an 850H that the only thing wrong is the solenoid broken plastic link. Saw your video and don't care to repair since I have two more working models. If you are interested on it or know someone that is, I can donate if willing to pay for the shipping. I have the power cord and the wired control remote. I live in Virginia. Regards, Jose

Curt, I have my 45ish year old Carousel 4400 projector and the fan started squeeling and slowing down, shut down right away. opening up bottom shows a ceramic coated coil in the inlet area of the fan and the ceramic is all disintegrated and loose in the housing. I've shaken and blown most of it out. a. what is that ceramic cylinder electrical part, is it something that is available? b. is there a lubrication procedure recommended for the fan?
@chrismanzi7173
2 жыл бұрын
I can answer the "a" part of your question: the "ceramic" part is a dropping resistor. It's function is to lower the voltage to the projection lamp to increase its life. Don't worry about the slaking of the coating the part is a wire wound resistor. Just keep the chips out of the rotating parts. As for the "b" part of your question, all I can say is lubricating squealing parts is always a good idea in anything that rotates

What do you do if the light turn on but is not projecting
@georgebyrkit7043

that sounds like 'not advancing' as well as not moving backwards, either. It's a solenoid link replacement. If you find the broken one, that's proof enough.

My 850h when turned on just advances very fast all on its own. I purchased and installed new gears and plunger. The select button and two foward and reverse buttons do nothing, except the foward makes a click noise, and focus motor jerks slightly. I give up
