Thank you so much for making and uploading this lecture. I always found dihybrid crosses tedious and confusing with Punnett squares, so taking this probability approach has been incredibly helpful for me. Clearly explained, and loved the little humour in there as well. Thanks again! ☺

I think the chi stuff goes like this. A high probability means the disparity between observed and expected was likely caused by chance (and that your observed data fits the expected very good). A high probability is good--remember, your null Hypothesis is that "chance caused the difference and you're correct." When your chi-square value gives you a probability >= to 5% (yes, 5%, this seems odd at first), you accept that your observed data fits the expected. What this means is that there is a 5% or greater probability that chance events alone caused you to see the disparity between observed and expected: not some other factor like mortality rate or counting errors.

great lectures! However, I am confused about the chi-square example. The yellow text bubble says that P is between 0.1 and 0.5, indicating a significantly high probability that the data was due to chance, and not based on our prediction of mendelian genetic ratios. Then the conclusion says " No significant difference between observed and expected values.". The conclusion is stumping me. It seems like thats a separate aspect? I dont see how the chi-square test measures the difference between observed and estimated values. X^2 gives us 2- but that doesnt mean anything to me with what you taught in this lecture. I know I have to consider x^2 and degrees of freedom to get my Goodness of fit... but it just seems contradictory and confusing.
