Everyone saying that Micheal Cudlitz' Lex Luthor is terrifying and scary and whatnot, and though true in a way, what I found scarier was the restraint that Tyler Hoechlin acted as Clark was holding in rage in staring Luthor right in the eyes. Yes, Luthor was menacing, but Clark was in a brink of snapping Luthor in two like a twig. There was pure hatred in Clark's eyes when he tells Luthor "You need to leave...now" and didn't blink, in fact Luthor looked a bit surprised himself, like trying to figure out how this Dork became so tough.

I was sad that Jon Cryer wasn’t able to reprise his role as Lex Luthor (Jon did a phenomenal job on Supergirl), and I felt that Jon didn’t get anywhere near enough screen time with Tyler and Elizabeth in Crisis on Infinite Earths… But I gotta say, Michael Cudlitz IMMEDIATELY nailed it as Lex Luthor. He perfectly encapsulates the rage, the arrogance, the menace and intellect of the villain. The way he confronts Clark and Lois, intimately threatens them, studies Clark intently… Welcome to the show, Lex Luthor & Michael Cudlitz…this is gonna be amazing.

I do not think that Cryer's Lex would have fit in this universe unless they made some bigger changes to give him a darker edge because supergirl was a much lighter show. But I thought Cryer nailed his debut, while Cudlitz did nothing wrong acting wise, I just didn't feel like he was as intelligent as Cryer. Yes in a very Kingpin manner he had been keeping tabs, and he used his wealth to make life in prison comfortable for him. But Kingpin in the Netflix show was also very good at manipulating people in more ways than just "if you don't listen to me then I will have my personal security beat or kill you." I get that they only had so much time, and that he will be the big bad of the next season so they are setting him up to win this season. And threats are an affective way of getting your point across. I'm just hoping that we get hint some of a larger plan that he's been working on in the next episode to set up what he wants to do in the final season. Since Lex winning using mainly muscle is not as fun as using his mind, although with Zombie Bizarro it's possible they will do their version of Death of Superman as the seasons Empire Strikes Back moment. But if he dies, when Clark comes back, he needs to wake up to a world where Luthor's plan have come to fruition where he can't simply just grab him and lock him up in a cell at the fortress for a good reason beyond it would end the season too early. And if that is not the route, I'm hoping whatever he has planned will have a similar result, since Bizzaro just fell into his lap, so it's a very Lex move to use such opportunities, but he couldn't have planned for it. That was something Supergirl did a good job at when they were not allowed to use him for more than 3 episode until DC saw the positive response and said ok to having him be in Crisis and the next seasons big bad. You retroactively felt his presence by seeing how he had pulled the strings. He also used more than one method of getting people to comply, yes it was understood that there was an undercurrent understanding you would die if for example the warden hadn't let him leave the prison once in a while. But that Lex also understood if you put every person under your boot, no carrot all stick, then no one is every going to be fully loyal if they see a chance to turn on you. Yet he was also flawed by not even pretending to be in love with Eve, he knew he could manipulate her love for him, but thought he knew her so well that he could never fullfill his promise. And she would never turn on him, because his ego is his biggest downfall not being able to stand the idea of anyone who isn't human. Since all humans are beneath him, yet Kryptonians because are born with a genetic predisposition to be more powerful than him on earth, it drives him crazy.

@@punkrock94 He was actually the most comic accurate live action version we have ever had. Of course was more lighthearted because it was a more childfriendly show, and no doubt they were trying to get young girls to watch the arrowverse too after having gotten more boys to watch the CW. While this is a show that does what a show should do which is grow up with your audience. So that the people who started watching Arrow back when it aired in 2012 or Flash two years later in their teens, are now starting to become parents themselves. It's the natural evolution Instead of doing what Legends did which was more in line with early arrowverse until it became a stoner show. Or Flash which went from chasing the coveted 18-32 demographic, and then went younger and younger after season 3 until the first real Flash family fight vs the Godspeed clones. Which you can easily confuse with Power Rangers. Luthor shouldn't just be evil, he should feel like one of the smartest people on the planet. They did a great job making him feel menacing to regular people, and I think the actor did a great job. But in the next episode and final season they need to show us how he was able to be a threat back in the day. I would love it if this became the most definitive version since Rosenbaum. Clancy Brown will always be my favorite voice, that being said I keep waiting for us to finally get a live action version of Lex that's on the level of Young Justice. He's just as smart and prepared as Batman. Literally has contingency plans decades ahead. Like when he took the procession of the real Roy Harper possibly getting free from his cryopod and coming after him. Knowing that Roy would suffer from PSTD with a fear of ever being taken hostage again, offers the arsenal arm in exchange for his life so that Roy can feel safe. And that's something that he barley put any thought into, he's in a game where long term he's goal is to outplay Darkseid and Vandal Savage and throughout the 20 years he's been a part of the light have gotten some significant pieces of the board. If they want to do him right in Superman Legacy, you start his introduction by borrowing from Swamp Thing where people can pay him 60 million dollars, for 60 seconds of his time to get advice to handle unsolvable problems.

This is such an amazing scene! The fact that Lex tells Lois he knows about the boys, the cancer, and has been keeping tabs on her. I got the chills when he screamed, "I was innocent!" While his anger was understandable, he has no right to tell Lois to retire. I like that Clark defended her and they had a stare down, but I wish he acknowledged Clark more. I wish that both Lois and Clark had written the article and that his vendetta was with them both. I liked Lex's dynamic with Clark Kent in Superman TAS and Lois and Clark, but his lack of interest in Clark in this scene was disappointing. It would have been cool if he had a past with Clark the reporter as well as Lois and Superman. Although Clark did defend Lois and you could tell he was trying to hold it together, when all he wanted to do was rip that guy's head off for showing up to his own uninvited and threatening his wife, but he couldn't risk exposing himself as Superman.
@dcworld4349
Жыл бұрын
My guess their thought process was that now with the Mannheim's gone. If Lex had a relationship with Clark it would take away from her individual story even though there are always overlap. With how they start as being enemies of Lois and then become a Superman problem. I can see where he is coming from, but it's not like he has any real leg to stand on. Yes in this instance he was in fact innocent, and of course no matter what I expected him to want to go after them. But in that spesific instance of yelling I felt they made him look weak, and they made both Lois and Clark look a bit dumb. I understand Lois has gone through a lot and cancer treatment does cause brain fog so I can understand her not retorting. But Clark should have easily been able to mention 3 things in rapid succession that Lex has gotten away with. Things that would have sent him to prison, and then ended with "do you want me to go on? I can think of at least a dozen other examples of the top of my head of stories my wife exposed that never stuck because of your overpriced lawyers along with threats and bribes." It's the sort of thing mob guys will say when they the complain about having been sent to prison for a crime that they actually didn't commit while also admitting they have infact committed a lot of crimes, including murder. If you want to play in that world, and you play dirty and use every trick in the book to create your own get out of jail free cards for a long time. Then expecting the world to fight back against you fairly is pretty childish. I'm not saying in a real world context we shouldn't have an innocent until proven guilty system, for most criminals that is the right system to have. Most of them never accumulate enough power to actively be able to manipulating the system to do exactly what they want. That's reserved for only a very select few, people who usually end up in the history books because of it. Not saying they should write him to let bygones be bygones. But I felt they did a really great job when it comes to Bruno being more than a cardboard cutout mob boss. This version of Lex felt more like Kingpin, so I hope that in the next episode they showcase his intellect a bit more, to make him the biggest credible threat for the final season. Lex should always be in the top 3 smartest people on the planet, and I thought Supergirl did that better. Yes it's a more lighthearted show but Cryer displayed the high intellect, mixed with the insanity of Lex like he's in the comics or various animated projects in a better way. He's always the most interesting when you buy that he could in fact have been the worlds savior and done wonderful things for the planet, (not unlike what Bruno did for his local community) but his obsession with Superman being born better drives him crazy. Clark could have easily killed him and gotten away with it, yes Otis was going to pick Luther up, but if Clark had it in him, he could hav gotten away with it doing it, just throw him into space before the car came. Then walk back outside pretending that Lex never showed up. Lex is actually lucky Clark's morals is the strongest thing about him. Where he will only use things like the phantomzone projector on people or aliens that can't be contained in a prison. Cause Superman does use it without thinking about due process knowing what they are and will do if he releases them. He would rather depower them and it's always his last solution, be if it needs to be done he will do it. He will even kill in certain conditions, not just in Snyder movies. It's funny the thing Lex hates him for, not being human, Lex being just a human is the thing that makes Clark go easy on him. None of my gripes has to do with the actor, I think he did exactly what was asked of him and he did a great job being intimidating. When he smiles while he gets beat up was a solid moment, and the way he very calmly and coldly talked to the warden was something straight out of the Kingpins playbook. I just hope considering the season is likely ending on a Empire Strikes Back note. They'll reveal not all but decent chunks of what he's been planning for all these years. Zombie Bizarro just fell into his lap so taking advantage of him is very Lex, but that can't be all he's going to do.

It's really funny: Lex is most definitely guilty of many, many things. Getting his hands dirty and directly killing people was the one thing he never did, and that of all things is what he was sentenced to. He deserved prison. He just didn't go for the right reason.

This Lex is just so menacing and looks so aggrieved by Lois and Clark one of if not the best portrayals of Lex Luthor ever shown on screen yet and he didn't have to act like an overly smart crazy guy to boot. this just reminded me more that Snyder not only turned Superman into a Batman wannabe he also had a Lex Luthor who was a quasi Joker wannabe.

Lex kept his promise to each of those inmates. He told the boss "You can keep your cell." His other cellmate "You can keep your teeth." And the inmate with the long hair "And maybe you can still walk." But since they didn't take his deal, he made sure to follow up on his threat. Sure enough each on was given what Lex promised them. The Boss of those inmates was knocked down so low on the prison totem pole, he was reduced to a chair. His 'waiter' was missing a few teeth And the guy cleaning his hair definitely wasn't walking

I've got to say, I want this version of Lex to die. No more prison, not phantom zone like Jon Cryer's version. @@micahfranklin4560 No, you misunderstand. Lex Luthor is extremely intelligent (don't forget this). He knew if he told him right there on the spot he was superman, it would be to his disadvantage. He knew Sups could track him and watch him closely. That also means, he would not have been able to pull off creating Doomsday. Sups would find out and prevent it. Why? Because he would have noticed HIM noticing HIM. That changes the game. Luthor played that one off perfectly. He knew when to stop pushing and if you watch the scene closely, I think you will see it from that vantage point.
