Wow. I totally had the opposite opinion of Jeff and David. 🤷♂ Was it scary, no, but the mood and creepiness was enjoyable to me.

lol how did I know that Devindra would love the movie and Jeff/David (who I usually agree with more often) were more tame? It’s so predictable at this point

I’m not as high on it as Devindra was but not as low as Jeff and Dave, one thing bugged me all pod though…no one shouted out Alicia Witt by name ( unless I missed it) and I thought she was fantastic in it. Definitely a big oversight.

I don't usually comment on videos but felt compelled to due to the exuberance of this film and my fun with it. I don't agree with Dave or Jeff, but I see their point of view. The movie is to some degree style over substance, but I don't think totally, and I don't think there's anything wrong with predominance of style. If you are a horror fan, you may like this movie. If you like Argento's Susperia or Deep Red, or De Palma;s Body Double, you may like this. But if you think The Shining lacked psychological depth and grounding, then you may hate it. I loved it. I think it's more for horror fans, and frankly I think it did have substance. The twist (SPOILERS) of the mother making a deal with the devil was fascinating, and it involved the same mythic/fairy tale aspect I enjoyed in Gretel & Hansel and Blackcoat's Daughter. It did have interesting ideas. It's just not grounded in psychological realism--like Shining, like Argento, like De Palma. (Actually, it also reminded me of Charles Brockden Brown's 1800s book Wieland, about a ventriloquist who acts like a vampire and influences other's thoughts.)

Im riding with you, Devindra ✊ i get it, and i appreciate some of the open-endedness that makes me create my own theories. I think plenty of this movie can be explained but understanding and taking unto consideration the most basic Christian values/traditions/flaws. I refuse to believe that the decisions made in the making of this movie are not intentional, seeing as it was so competently made. I think the unanswered/unexplained factors were either unimportant to the overall understanding of the movie, are answered indirectly, or are up ro viewer interpretation.

And Yes! Mika Monroe was AWESOME!!! Alicia Witt was creepier than Nic Cage! LOL. There was so much good stuff, but it just seemed like two different movies mashed together.

For those who do like this, I highly recommend Oz Perkins first movie, The Blackcoat's Daughter. I think it's his best and it's tonally similar to this.

It's funny, Jeff, Dave, and Devindra actually agree a lot on whether individual elements are good or bad, but then deviate wildly on whether it all adds up to a satisfying film. In the end I think it comes down to personal taste as to whether you like the good stuff enough to forgive the flaws. I think I'm with Dave here, somewhere in the middle but on the negative end. There is a lot to admire in Longlegs but overall the film doesn't really work.

I went and saw it twice. Love the vibe but have to agree, the writing is weak sauce. That’s the problem with almost every Oz Perkins film. He has great ideas. He just needs to humble himself and let someone else turn them into a script.

YES, JEFF!! Totally agree! I thought it wanted it to be a "Silence of the Lambs" with a taste of "X-Files", which I am all for, but the supernatural stuff seemed thrown in without justification. I love Nic Cage!! I do! However, his character just seemed like he was in different movie altogether. I almost wish there was less of him, with maybe a bigger impact at the end. I also, liked what he was doing, but wishing he was in a different movie. I also thought "Where were the Long Legs?" Lol. He even mentions it in the opening scene! "Says something like, "I wore my long legs." and then it screams into the title screen. I was like, "YESSS!!! Can't wait to see what the hell that's all about!" ....and then....it never came. I really wanted to love this movie, but just couldn't. Nic's character and the added supernatural element without more background to it just seemed lazy and silly. :(

Question: Is she even psychic or was it a link of sorts with the doll?

Moviegoers seem to have lower standards nowadays. Whenever there’s an above-average genre film out, it’s like the second coming of Christ or an “absolute masterpiece” and nobody can say anything else. Longlegs was okay, but like David said, you can tell it’s trying REAL hard to be scary with the unnecessary knocks that don’t make sense or the usual overacting from Nick Cage. Also, I think serial killer films don’t have to involve religious/fantastical/supernatural elements to be scary or creepy. I don’t know why the horror genre can’t just veer more into the subtle creepiness of lifelike scenarios…
