Jones added a much-needed solid backbone to the band. Moon was so out of shape from '77 onwards, he couldn't do shit on drums. For the 'Who Are You' album, they had to record alternative percussion for a song in 3/4 time, which he just couldn't play anymore, even though he'd nailed Love Rain O'er Me 4 years earlier. They had to dub over the drum tracks for the release of his last gig. I bet, if Keith had kept going, The Who would have broken up before 1980. Kenny was a very un-Moon-like drummer. Which is probably why Pete chose him.

That Simulcast was Fantastic! I never got to see them in Seattle but a friend said it was a way better show than the show The Rolling Stones did the year before. Sound, Lighting, Performance, Etc. This Song is the Perfect Example of a Power Ballad that can only be done, by the likes of The Who. They really were the Greatest Live Band throughout the 70s, and this Show really capped it off, despite Townshend no longer riding in the same Limousines with the others. It truly was the end of The Who. Kenny Jones did a Great Job. Roger's Voice was so strong and John's Bass Playing was, as always, Phenomenal! 🇬🇧❤️🎸🎼🎶🎵

This was always my favourite track from Who's Next. To me, it's one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. Each line is a gem, but my favourite is "Black ash from the foundry, hangs like a hood, but the air is perfumed by the burnin' fire wood". Real life, in post-war England, and the eternal theme of the love (and sex!) between a married couple with children.

What a tremendous track off Who’s Next. Recently asked a Radio DJ to put in a request to play this song. She said, nope don’t have that one but I can play Baba O’Riley. What a shame today’s radio computer only has a select few. Not like the old days when they could play any song off LP or CD. I told her no thanks, never mind and hung up.

@keef186 Great memory you have! There used to be a DVD unedited with that exchange you are talking about and Pete started getting sentimental with the audience dedicating this song to them. +Supertzar999 I think I get why Roger played the guitar a lot during this area of the Who. Roger always said that he could dance to Keith's drums but not with Kennedy's so I think that Roger is on guitar because it's something to do without Keith style drums behind him. sorry this is a 1+ year reply but I'm trying to figure my opinion out.

Roger was the original lead guitarist. He always played guitar on "Behind Blue Eyes" when I have seen them. And this song has overdubbed multiple acoustic guitars, it needs an acoustic and something to fill the space during solos, since The Ox is pretty mellow in this one.

As you probably all ready know they are Kent Armstrong pickups, but also it's the whole combo of things going on, the amps/guitars (Giffin/ Schecter) of course but the delay, chorus and compression set up is amazing, It's also his style of playing, the harmonics, the open strings ringing out, the open tunings etc. I have 4 sets of these pickups, 3 of the cheaper and one set the originals, don't be fooled by the cheaper sets, they are amazing.

I like Kenny Jones, but after Keith passed away, they sort of just sounded like a regular band, competent, professional, consistent, but not explosive, unpredictable and aggressive, they just lost that essence that used to make them one of, if not the greatest live act in rock and roll history. It's like they were a Lamborghini that replaced their snarling V12 engine with an electric motor, sure they were still fast but without the roar and that magical note coming from the exhaust, nice but not dangerous anymore. One more analogy: Like a Saber Toothed Tiger that went to the dentist and had it's teeth pulled, lots of bark but much less bite.Yes I know Saber Toothed Tigers didn't bark! OK that's all I got.

The Schecter guitar with Hi-Watt combo did sound good. I am surprised. I want to know what pickups he used. Shcecters are usually lighter wood and not that good overall. Maybe thats why they are really not around anmore as far as i know. Maybe be mistaken. Pete played that entire concert with intensity. Good show for the band.
@Kohntarkosz

"Shcecters are usually lighter wood and not that good overall." I don't know about the current Schecter company, but the guitars Pete played were most definitely high quality, actually better than the guitars Fender was making in the 70's. He actually started playing them because his guitar tech Alan Rogan, spotted htem at a music store in NYC in 79 (Rogan said it was Manny's, but I think it was actually Rudy's because Rudy's was the NYC area Schecter dealer) and brought a couple to Madison Square Garden, where they were doing some shows, and Pete loved it immediately. The black one became his main axe for most of the next few years, and he had a bunch of copies built by a UK luthier named Roger Giffin. The guitar Pete's playing here is the prototype for what later became Schecter's Saturn model, and the pickups are probably based off Schecter's Z+ models, which were probably in the original black guitar.
