275hp LT1 Camaro Z/28 automatic (1993) vs 260hp 2V Mustang GT (1999)
Raw unedited version of a video that I uploaded years ago. The LT1 and the 2V were a good matchup as they made similar performance stock, with the edge going to the LT1 of course, as it brings more displacement to the table. But the 4.6 liter 2V really is a great little engine (and a balanced “square” engine, almost equal bore x stroke) both of these engines like to pull up top, but the LT1 just has loads of “grunt” and that’s the best word I can come up with lol, it’s just full of grunt lol. I actually owned a ‘94 black LT1 Z28 around this time which was a bit faster than my buddy Andy’s maroon Z28 in this video, and that old LT1 would just pull up top, hard, and it just kept pulling lol. For it’s time, the LT1 truly was a badass machine, especially coupled with the T56 six speed tranny. That really was a lot of car back in the mid ‘90s.
Both of these cars had basic bolt-on modifications and gears. The Mustang had 3.73 gears and Camaro 3.42 gears, which I told my buddy that he was foolish for installing 3.42s. I pleaded with him to go at least 3.73 or 4.11 but he was worried about practicality and fuel efficiency. After he got spanked by a few Mustangs he said he actually regretted not going with more gear lol.
This ‘93 automatic LT1 had SLP headers, Flowmaster cat-back, underdrive crank pulley, throttle body air-foil, K&N FIPK cold air kit, 3.42 gears and a tune (chip, as this was MAP speed density rather than MAF mass air) and made 280hp to the wheels. The Mustang also had exhaust, Accufab throttle body, cold air kit, aftermarket clutch, 3.73 gears and couple other basic bolt-ons and it never was on a Dyno machine like the Camaro.
