Good point about EF-S lenses not being compatible with this camera. That 40mm pancake is my most used lens by far - Love it! When my Elan 7NE developed some problems last month, I picked up an Elan 7N at a pretty good price to replace it. I didn’t use the eye control on the 7NE, so I won’t miss that feature.

@@theoldcameraguy Thanks! I’ve seen the damage it can do, putting EF-S on EF. Mirror and lens damage! And yes, the 40/2.8 is sublime! Thanks for watching 🍻

FYI - you can swap the plastic EF-S mount on both the 18-55 and 10-18mm IS STM for a metal regular EF mount from fleabay. The 10-18mm, when converted, works perfectly and is safe to use on EF bodies from 12-18mm. Image circle covers full frame from 14-18mm, and the IS works fantastic. I love using it for film because there are no other stabilized options that wide and lightweight with AF. I also use it for video on the Canon 5Dm4. The same trick works on many 3rd party lenses because even if it's crop, they don't usually install an EF-S mount, just EF. It's usually pointless because most lenses won't cover FF. Many will cover square though. The Tamron 10-24mm covers most of the range, but it was too soft for me 😊

My first Canon EOS was the 650. I added a Elan 7E several years later and hated it. The eye focus was erratic at best. It might be because I wear glasses but I never really cared for it. I went back to my 650 for most of my photography. I did take it on a trip and it just stopped working. No focus, no shutter, no film advance o0r rewind. I took the lens off, changed the battery and still no joy. I binned the damn thing and never looked back. I recently started using film again and stumbled across a EOS 1N RS. It is a heavy monster but works flawlessly and the fixed pellicle mirror while giving a darker viewfinder image than normal but not that bad and the image never blacks out as the mirror doesn't move. Still with 8 AA batteries it is a monster

I had one of those back in 2002 which I bought new. I'm in the UK so it was called the EOS 30. I loved it and only went digital when in 2012, I broke the back door catch. I have since stayed with EOS digital SLRs but did recently get an EOS 3 and a much cheaper EOS 500N. It's fun sharing my EF lenses between the film and digital bodies 😊 oh and my EOS 3 also has the eye control focus but I now wear glasses and it definitely does not work as well with glasses. My old EOS 30's eye control worked great for me all those years ago when I didn't have to wear glasses

The EOS 7 was one of the first cameras I purchased when I went back to film in 2018 and I shoot it a lot. I've been meaning to pick up the 40mm pancake and thanks to this great video it is now been ordered. Thanks for this video Alex!

Nice! The EF mount can adapt just about any other lens mount, so if you dont mind manual focus lenses you have tons of options!

Just picked up a 7e on eBay for under $100 bucks! I really enjoy shooting on my ae-1 and f-1 but with a new baby I really wanted something with AF to make focusing a little easier when she's moving around. Real excited to use it!

@@AlexLuyckxPhoto no problem great video! Is there any technique to opening and closing the camera that'll help keep that plastic latch in tact or is it just as simple as be gentle and I assume don't slam the camera shut?
