Isn't it great that Luke Kelly has such a big fan club because we are able to keep his memory and performances alive through websites like this? I have to perform and teach many different styles of music in my work but I always come back to the Dubs because you can sing along. Their music really is the heart if you see what I mean. By the way I am not Irish but I think that Ireland has some of the most beautiful and haunting music of the world.

@kellyoneill He was. This was not long before he died. This is what I got from Wikipedia: On his European tour in autumn 1983 he came off the stage in Traun, Austria and again in Mannheim, Germany. Shortly after he had to cancel the tour of southern Germany and after a short stay in hospital in Heidelberg he was flown back to Dublin. After another operation he spent Christmas with his family but was taken into hospital again in the New Year, where he died on 30 January 1984.

@@daisypeters3216 I do the same really but I think that Ronnie's voice was more unique. I mean I could sing "like Luke" but it would be much harder to sing "like Ronnie" you just can not train or imitate his deep and at the same time wavy, something like oxidized spring :D especially Ronnie's voice in early 60's and 70's. However his voice in his last ears got even better. Of course nobody could sing Rocky Road to Dublin like Luke and many other songs ass well. I love listening to The Dubliners almost every day and if today I have not listened to them I have sang at least two or three of their songs. The Dubliners are in my head every time I walk. I sing along SpaniSh Lady, Monto, Rocky Road to Dublin, Finnegan's Wake, Irish Rover or some others.

I've been a wild rover for many a year And I spent all my money on whiskey and beer, And now I'm returning with gold in great store And I never will play the wild rover no more. chorus: And it's no, nay, never, No nay never no more, Will I play the wild rover No never no more. I went to an ale-house I used to frequent And I told the landlady my money was spent. I asked her for credit, she answered me "nay Such a custom as yours I could have any day." chorus I took from my pocket ten sovereigns bright And the landlady's eyes opened wide with delight. She said "I have whiskey and wines of the best And the words that I spoke sure were only in jest." chorus I'll go home to my parents, confess what I've done And I'll ask them to pardon their prodigal son. And if they caress (forgive) me as ofttimes before Sure I never will play the wild rover no more. chorus

My offering to Luke, with love.
