Texan here ... born-n-raised. The thing I think most people don't realize is that we're brought up this way. We're taught from childhood to love our state like no other. It's something we accept early and are proud of the rest of our born days. When i was in elementary school we sang "Texas Our Texas" every morning along with the Pledge of Allegiance. It's in the blood!

As a life long Floridian, I always thought our states used to be very similar. We were tough and hardy states. Able to take care of ourselves. But now, tourists and northerners have overrun us. Now Central Florida has no heritage left. Hardly anyone here has roots here. Central and South Fl have let them dictate the direction of the state. And it's disappointing. It no longer feels like Florida here. Texas has done an outstanding job of turning transplants into Texans instead of letting them turn Texas into Michigan or Ohio. I go to Texas a couple of times a year to see Texas music artists in the local clubs. It amazes me to see the state loyalty shown there. The Texas music, big stars on the front of the houses, and almost every business has the word Texas in it. Soon, I will leave this area. I may go to North Fl were the its a slower pace, or maybe , If I find a place in Texas that speaks to me , I will go there. Till then, Im hitting all the dance halls I can find. Oh yea, I got a star for my house too.

I never felt at home growing up in Texas for a variety of reasons. I got OUT as soon as I could at age 36 and feel very much at home in the Pacific NW. However, I had an extended visit back home to the DFW area this past summer and finally embraced my heritage because I finally realized after visiting so many people that I have so many there that love and care for me. I can now say I'm glad I grew up there and appreciate everything that Texas had to give me.

I’m perhaps not quite as liberal as I once was, but retiring after 42 years of teaching led me to believe the most important thing in life boils down to: life is a gift, love is the point and enjoy the now. I am a Cajun hillbilly and I always hate when people make assumptions about Louisiana and Texas. We are not dumb, or rude or slow, or racist. Maybe a few are. Most get along because we grow up in Louisiana speaking the Acadian language and broken English, in a patois. So when I speak I have my Cajun cousins and my North Louisiana cousins slow drawl in my voice. I moved form south Louisiana speaking fluent old French to moving to north Louisiana right near Texas and Arkansas. We call all non speakers of our language “Texians” and we love our Texas cousins.

Gawd bless'im. I'm a native Texan, and I've gone inside the Alamo. Inside is a plaque that notates every person that died there defending the Alamo. And they're from all over the world! People from Germany, Scotland, France, etc. Even Mexico, who was the enemy at the time. And they all died for my Texas. Their blood made this land sacred, and I'm eternally grateful for that. Texas is not about where you were you were born. It's about what you believe-- what you will live, stand, and die for. It's about yelling down tyranny. It's about screaming a battlecry at hurricanes. It's about living and dying for something greater than yourself. I love Texas. I was born in Texas, and I'll die in Texas. God bless Texas.

I love Texas! The first time I visited I felt like I had finally found my home and it has been that way ever since! Previously I had always felt misplaced!

I don't care too much for concerts, usually, but I would love to see this guy play live.

First time I ever saw Lyle was at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. Friends had seats in what would have been orchestra section. Not 10 feet away from stage. WOW! blew me out of the water!! Went to see him every year there after that. Love him and his music ever since
