Lovely pots. Great ferns. Sydney tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? What is your profession? We would like to know you better. It’s going to be fun watching your channel grow and see how the house and garden becomes your own style. So many loved that house and garden so it’ll be exciting how it transforms into something completely different but, I’m sure it’s going to be quite lovely. You have a good eye for finding wonderful decor in your style Looking forward to your next video. Hugs from Dallas

You've inspired me to get a Maidenhair fern for a pot on the front porch when it warms up. Yours are so green and beautiful! They look great in those grey pots. I do have Painted ferns and Autumn ferns in a shady spot in the yard and they thrive and I love them. Enjoy your weekend!

Sydney, I love all ferns, especially this variety. My husband and I went south in Nov. and had our great granddaughter take care of my huge old Boston fern. Well, “Bertie” didn’t survive! I was heartbroken, but knew I could get another one. 👍🏻💕

Maidenhair ferns look great in grey pots. As hard as I’ve tried over 50 years I have not had success with ferns in the house….even the bathroom. I have managed to keep a springeri alive for the last 5 years. I keep it in my laundry room which is cooler than the house. By spring it has a lot of brown needles, but comes back beautifully after going outside. Loves the rain. 💖😊

Hi Sydney, I was scanning videos and saw Linda's old house so I'm really curious to see what changes you'll be making. I live in southeastern PA and have had maidenhair fern growing in my yard for years. At first it was under a shrub but the shrub died and I cut it out thinking I would have to move the fern but it's been growing in full sun and seems to like it 🙂 Looking forward to the changes you'll be making. I'm also enjoying Linda's cottage house videos.

I have bought a couple of dozen of maiden hair ferns over the years, they die and this year I haven’t bought one. And I’m good with plants. There is a perennial maiden hair, I have a group of them planted in my yard I’ve had for maybe ten years. But still, I want the ones you have.

Hi Sydney The ferns are beautiful in the pots. I had one a few years ago and it did survive in my uk climate for some time. Kept it outside through winters too. Sadly, it must have reached the end of its life. So no more maidenhead ferns yet💝

I'm in Queensland and I have my maidenhair ferns outside. Sometimes they dry out and die off. If that happens, I cut them back to the ground, put a bit of potting mix on the top of the pot and water. If they are kept dampish they come back. I've had some in pots for 20 years.
@SydneyDorman

@Sydney Dorman they don't get a lot of care and attention. I water when I remember if it's been dry for a while. Every 3 or 4 years I'll divide them, again if I think about it. Other than that, they are on their own.

Haha 😂 she’s not wrong but I think she lives in a dry climate without much humidity. They thrive for me outside. It’s when they have to come in that’s the problem. They are actually a perennial 3-7 but I’ve never successfully over wintered them outside.
@angelacollins1343

I live in a very similar climate to Laura, gets very hot in summer, also very low humidity. Zone 7 in Central Washington, the native plants on our hillsides are sage and grasses. I’m glad you can successfully grow them Sydney. My in-laws lived in Shawnee, OK and I visited there in August and September. You aren’t exaggerating about humidity.

Sydney, I know your Oklahoma wind can be like our hot west Texas wind, so I was wondering what you do to protect these fragile little ferns on windy days? I had mine outside last year and eventually just moved it back to live in my greenhouse year round and only bring it out to be a center piece for my table if I’m entertaining. Any tips?

Beautiful! This year I will finally get one but keep it outside. I don’t want to have to baby it inside. It’s so humid here in Houston, so I’m sure it will do great on my patio. I was obsessed with yours on your front patio at the old house. Also what are your plans with that room aside your garage? I would totally make it into a greenhouse/ entertaining area. Add some skylight for more light and filled with plants and a table to have cocktails or tea. So dreamy!

Love these, but have shied away because of their reputation. Do you grow yours as annuals? I'm in central Texas, so that's good to know they handle outside shade well enough. I drove by Tuesday this past week since we were visiting my parents in Del City. No tulips yet, darn! 😄 But the pansies and creeping phlox are looking gorgeous!
@SydneyDorman

No tulips yet! The tulips at our old house are blooming though! Too early 😬 We used to live in Keller and I grew them outside in pots. I grow them as perennials but I keep them inside as little as possible. They are technically perennial zone 3-7 but I dont like to risk planting them in the ground bc our winters have been so unpredictable the last couple of years. You’ll be able to grow them well in pots in full shade keeping them constantly moist!
