Another fantastic project, Young Je, very cool. I have watched all your videos many times, and learned a lot. This one stands out - this unique jig makes mortising almost as simple as drilling a hole, one of a kind. I ended up reverse engineering this build, with a few simplifications. I used drawer slides for both vertical panel router is mounted to, as well as the horizontal platform where the board is attached - this took all metal working out of the project. I also used a quarter-inch thick piece of plastic for router panel - cut it out of $6 cutting board from Big Lots. If anyone is interested to repeat this, few things to pay close attention to: - all three moving parts should have minimal or no play at all - make sure your cuts for moving parts are precise; - to work safely and get perfect results consistently, make sure you can clamp the part down with two strong bar clamps - you don't want it flying around or even move while being routed. The hold down clamps didn't really work for me; - end-stops are the must - when routing, you want to focus on going through depth, not getting distracted to lateral movement. I have got best results standing to the left from the jig, moving the platform horizontally towards me for cuts - this seems to give full control and best view of the process. As with traditional mortising, I drill at end positions to full depth, then remove material in between by making shallow, 1/4" deep passes. I use this jig only for mortising, and it is irreplaceable - helps me produce perfect, repeatable mortises every time.

Very nice. I like the way you used the aluminum angle and bearings for the tracking.

I get the impression you create all your works simply from thinking about it then trial and error with a lot of experience to make all the parts. No pen and paper drawings, no measurements just "it looks right" or "this should be about the right size". Many people ask for plans but I don't think there are any to begin with! Very good work.

Great to watch a video with no nonsense ,goes to show good content doesn't need fancy camera or scripting . Any chance of a video showing the router being used at an angle - I imagine it could really expand the number of profiles that could be produced from basic cutters. Thanks again for the videos

Agreed, are plans available for purchasing? I just built a standard router table with a sliding table, oversized fence, and some nice features, but am considering building a horizontal one for making mortises/tenons, and raised panels. I’d like to combine this table with features from Stumpy Nubs horizontal router table, especially the tilting feature.

From what I can see the ball bearings are drilled through the angle iron and or aluminum and bolted together from the inside out trading at Raleigh charade on the V portion of the angle iron. Very ingenious.

Thanks for sharing. I am curious as to why you decided to use a door slide on the vertical carriage instead of using aluminum angle and bearings?

The use of bearings in the vertical direction complicates locking, which is not good.

Other than not having a tilting table, this looks very much like the one I designed a few years ago. In fact, that lift mechanism using a lead-screw driven carriage lift on drawer slides is almost exactly like mine. I suppose great minds think alike, nice work! :)
