Making a Small Leather Moleskin Notebook Cover
Based off the template from Ian Atkinson - www.etsy.com/listing/19459427...
It's been a while since I posted. We moved this time last year and the new house doesn't have the garage space I had before. I'm slowly working on getting a "shop" together.
This is my first real leather project. I made a couple belts before this but that's it. Well, maybe when I was in Boy Scouts 30 years ago...
I started out with some 5/6 veg tanned leather. I forgot to film the first steps but, I rough cut everything except the button tab which was cut to exact size. Then everything was dyed with a Russet color dye and left to dry. Then the video starts off.
The main part was cut to exact size and the side panels were cut straight on both sides but left long on the top and bottom. The button snap was installed. I then glued and stitched the inner left panel. I roughed up the gluing area and glued the button tab to the back. After it dried I came in and stitched that up.
Now came the inner right panel. Basically the same process as the other side. I was going to dye the edges before I burnished, but my wife said she liked it without dye, so that's what I did. Just wet the edges and spent some time burnishing. Then I threw on some leather conditioner and voila!
All in all it was a day long project. I stopped and started all day so you could get it done in a few hours if you stuck to it. This is a Christmas present for my oldest daughter so I wanted to take my time and get it right.
Hope you enjoy!
