Oh yeah Hugo Weaving really outdid himself in the role in the first Matrix movies. His performance always really solidified the fact the agents, especially any copies of him, are not to be trifled with on any level. When I watched Resurrections, I was really confused when some new actor was even trying to play the character in the first place. Not only is it strange from a story perspective, but there’s no way to tell your audience that you’re not trying than to try and do a second-rate performance of an iconic actor.

I love Jonathan Groff as an actor. He's fantastic. I could tell he was reaching and trying so hard to have the same cadence as Hugo. I'm sure the cuts of Hugo mouthing the words over Jonathan's lines helped significantly. Poor guy was given one of the most difficult roles to replace. Has the same feeling of Will Smith's genie vs Robin Williams. There's just no replacing that first representation.

If the premise at the beginning of the movie was the movie, I think it would have been a great way to continue the idea of what reality is and how our minds can alter that definition by choosing to believe and disbelieve what is real. The whole first 30 minutes laid a foundation for a change for the franchise, to tackle how mental health could affect your own reality in a way a computer simulation could, and I personally would have rather watched that movie.

Rewriting reality is a pretty overpowered ability anyway, not exactly the kind of thing to be used as a bludgeon, regardless of how boring in a action-movie sense it might be. The Matrix (like all media that forms the superstructure) is a reflection of the fabric of society first and an action movie like...4th or 5th at least, kinda crazy how many people still miss that point even after if being basically shoved in their face.

This comment is great. Because this movie is exactly the kind of fan they wanted to give the finger. All you listed right here is the action scenes. You're the studios target audience. You don't want originality. You don't want thought provoking movies. You don't want art, you want action, and that's fine but that's never what the point of the movies was about and this movie literally makes fun of you people who praise the original movie for being great when you don't even add to the list the thought provoking questions and amazing dialog that all 3 films of the trilogy had and brought. You just want your "bullet time" It's honestly hilarious and that's why I liked this 4th installment.
@SomeJohndoe
2 жыл бұрын
@@RandomNirvanaSXE you say originality but this movie associates itself with a trilogy that already explored some of the concepts that it builds itself upon. Yes ressurections does introduce new ideas of its own but its not “original” because nothing really ever is “original” in the movie industry. That is why there was the so called “golden age” of film making that is the time when the industry i feel was at peak growth and there was still room to try many concepts both new and old in different unseen before ways. My list is only the action scenes with three dots at the end because even without touching the great story underlying the original trilogy, just as an action movie really ressurections had quite abit of content it would be compared against because no denying this movie is not just for new comers but it is also for those who knew and loved or hated the original trilogy already. If that were not so then the nostalgia bits would not have been thrown in. Its not a middle finger to anyone. I feel it was an attempt to take the series in a different direction that is why it has some nostalgia thrown in as well as new ideas to include everyone. Even from a financial stand point you wont make extra money by giving the middle finger to avid fans of the original. Lastly my last statement was that it had alot to live up to which is true i never stated in my comment whether i think ressurrections is trash or not you just projected a conclusion on to my comment which in actual reality is ambigous as to what i really feel about the fourth installment. A perceived criticism should not be treated as a “conclusion”….even the “best” or “better” movies have flaws. It is like Raimi Spiderman 2 vs The Amazing Spiderman….some prefer the newer one over the older one and vice versa

Couldn't agree more, heck they could've made it so that him entrapped inside of the matrix was his deliberate choice so that humanity could be freed from the machine, with him turning his experiences from the og trilogy into games was his way to cope with his current "reality". introduction to Io was also a huge wasted potential, they could've delve in deeper to how man and machine has grown to live with each other, and maybe add more machine vs machine conflict with one group seeking control of mankind and the other wishing to work together with humans to create a better future. I mean idk, I'm not a professional writer but surely they could've done better instead of relying on nostalgia (like c'mon, spider man: nwh already did that) and the weak "damsel in distress" trope.
@spendingtimetogether8428
2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, they could've delved into that even more. At this point, I wouldn't even mind if it turned into a drama and if it's all really in Tom's head (is he really The One or just nuts), since the 'reveal' was just rehashing the first film (but done worse) and the rest of the movie kinda sucked.

I summed up the movie as "The Matrix 4: Unrealized Potential" So many intriguing ideas were brought up and then INSTANTLY discarded, like Agents not having to look or behave like Swedish martial arts champs in three piece suits, they can be your obese coworker who smells like cat piss until suddenly he's flipping and dippin, bouncing off walls trying to murder someone. The entire movie was like that, it was like they didn't know their own lore and it became obvious that Lana needs her sibling to keep her in check, they work as a duo but not solo. And yeah, Morpheus should have been a new character with how they portrayed him, it was also a missed opportunity to just say this is the new version of him born into the Matrix because everyone who is plugged in is a clone, and the cycle has repeated multiple times before so they could have gone that route.
@Lr_Rahim

I’m just trying to figure out why Hugo Weaving couldn’t be Smith again. They didn’t explain why he couldn’t come back. And couldn’t Lawrence Fishburne come back too with how the new Morpheus was explained? But yea Lana needed her sibling
@worsel555
2 жыл бұрын
@@Lr_Rahim Hugo Weaving wanted to come back and was supposed to be in it but could not due to scheduling conflicts he could not get out of. As for Fishburne, yeah, he would not need to be there because 1) he was killed in the MMORPG for trying to break the peace with the Machines by forcefully waking people up, no matter the consequences if their minds were ready for it or not and 2) this is a newer version of the Matrix after the Purge which again happened in the MMORPG when it was taken offline and only just BARELY referenced in the movie during the Machines Civil War. It seemed that the clones ran on average a 100 yr cycle or so for refreshing so someone plugged in before the restart would not run into someone they knew before. I should also state I used to work for a company that did tech support for the Matrix MMORPG back in the day so I am familiar with the storyline since it's cannon ;) In order for Young Morpheus to work a lot more would have had to have been changed and developed, like more time to have passed, a certain character to not be alive with terrible makeup and character assassination to go with it, a new Oracle that WOULD HAVE MADE SENSE with how Revolutions ended and a certain new character. The full potential to turn Morpheus into the full blown and straight up dangerous zealot he was in the original scrips who got a lot of people killed because of his delusions of grandeur. Such a waste.

It definitely felt that way. The movie almost reminded me of evangelion 3.0+1.0, with resurrection as a goodbye and good riddance to the franchise almost. As my fav movie franchise, I missed that green-grey filter to it. Lawrence as a Morpheus and Hugh as a Smith. Most of the time there was too much of a dramatic music, sometimes silence creates more tension. Too much focus on action scenes rather than explaining new/old stuff and the story itself and too much sarcasm and jokes rather than being a serious movie. Maybe I'm not a target audience but when I remember the old movies I think of them almost as a sci-fi horror movies, I was a kid when I saw a first movie, so the scenes where the agents implant the mechanical tracker through his belly button or when Smith sews Neo mouth off so he can't talk. And machines used to be scary as well. Also Neo didn't wear sunglasses did he? At least not enough, just small details like this should have been in a movie, and like Charlie said, in that scene where they ran from agents and Morpheus was supposedly one of them they didn't even care about it, didn't try to shoot him, they were like oh that's not good, oh well...so anyway like wtf

Movie had all the potential. The concept was great, but the execution was absolutely atrocious. Neo being alive and feeding hints over 60 years to his location, and being constantly rebrainwashed to quiet him by the machines: brilliant. Everything else: garbage. Also the machine civil war, along with some on the human side and helping even build cities, straight great setup for a good second trilogy. Really just blasted themself in the feet. Poor Keeanu.

@@ventomario3251 Umm nope. You really believe that WB would allow such comments to circulate if they were true? This is the business of make believe! The movie is a personal statement, a confession and an insult to a particular individual. They simply call this unseen person Warner Brothers. They even name the person in a roundabout way around six minutes into the movie, when Bugs slides down a marquee. Simply put, the man whose work they were handed back in 1993 recently surfaced. No one will get any of this without putting in hours of research. Fortunately that's been done. A little over three years ago some obscure channel posted a video which might have caused all of this. Seek out Milton Killer's Matrix Easter Eggs and follow the video links. You have to pay attention and read stuff though. There's a video with a Larry Wachowski confession and another one debunking a fake victim. Watch the latter first and you could be looking at what got under Larry Wachowski's skin, causing him to **** up big time with this choler fueled personal statement called Matrix Resurrections. I feel there where hints and nods from Lana Wachowski saying she wasn't happy. Even in the movie, there's lines roughly saying "The studio is going to make it happen whether or not you're involved." to Neo. This story is Lana's baby and I wouldn't not be shocked if the studio was like "Fuck you! We want money and either you make it or we find someone who will." So it had a feeling of Lana and the whole cast not taking the movie seriously. Keanu acted like he was still on the set of Bill and Ted. It had a more goofy feeling to it when the first movie took itself VERY seriously. I was overall disappointed. I did however LOVED seeing the Sense8 family return and would try to spot any actor from that series. The entire film was a jab at WB Studios. It's scripted as such, which means WB most likely wanted something for the "20th anniversary", but didn't allow for much scriptwriting/production/filming time. I personally liked it, but it wasn't the same level of like I had for the OG trilogy. There was no flavor or actual substance. The fight scenes were mediocre and paled in comparison, considering Keanu has done films like John Wick in recent years, leads me to believe this was a total rush job and didn't get the treatment or attention that a true Matrix continuation deserved.

Because both Neo and Trinity died at the end of the trilogy, Resurrections needed to open showing more of their resurrection by the machines. Similarly, a more fleshed-out depiction of the 'Machine civil war' that happened between Revolutions and Resurrections would have added the much-needed context that the current film was so obviously lacking. Not having more of the original actors or its original darker cyberpunk feel to instead replace it with a campy atmosphere throughout, led to that feeling we're all having over what was a landmark example of film making turned corporate mess, the very thing the original film stood against. Heard there's a sequel. Maybe we’ll eventually discover the entire Resurrections film was just another one of Neo’s dreams from safe within his pod. That would explain the disjointed, dream-like campy theme to Resurrections and allow the next film to be the real Matrix outside of the modal that was created not by Neo, but the (original) Architect. The line in Resurrections where Neo says "I've had dreams that weren't just dreams," as well as what the Analyst tells him about his current "reality" are strong clues. This would also mean Lana played with all our minds. It’s we that were in the Matrix within a Matrix in Resurrections. We dreamt Neo's dream. By the next film, I fully expect Neo to wake up from that dream to again become the One he still is and is still becoming....

Honestly, had no expectations when I watched Matrix Resurrections, so I can't say that I was terribly disappointed.. The third of the series really felt like the end lol. That said, I enjoyed the jabs they took at Warner Bros and can't say that I didn't like the performances of the actors. The action could've been a lot better though with twenty or so years of technological advances since the first one. All in all, Resurrections won't likely be something I'll rewatch, unlike the og trilogy. rip

i honestly had my hopes up for this movie even though every sign was pointing towards disappointment. The Wachowskis haven't made anything good in years by the looks of their ratings, the trailer didnt make any fucking sense, and even in the original trilogy they gradually felt less coherent. AND on top of that i cant recall any sequel to a franchise thats been going on for decades to be decent. All of these franchises get run into the ground because people keep paying to see them, even when they know theyre probably going to suck, theres still that one sliver of hope that says "but what if its actually good?"

As much as I wanted Hugo Weaving to come back since they brought Keanu and Carrie back when they announced the fourth movie, but after this, I’m glad he had scheduling conflicts. Agent Smith deserves a lot more than cutaways, callbacks, meta-gen, so forth.
