This channel might actually save me. You are better than my biochem lecturer (well, it is her first year, but still it's just chaos). Anyways, you said that the alpha subunits contain bound ATP but do not participate in reactions. What actually happens to those 3 ATP molecules in the alpha subunits? I don't think this will be relevant for my exam but it would still be nice to know

In the process of glycolysis link reaction and citric acid an (overall) 8 NADH+ H+ and 2 FADH2 is produced, this happens in a reaction where NAD+ 2H+ +2e and FAD --> FADH2, This meaning, when prodcuing 8 and 2 of these electron carriers we need 24 hydrogen, but glucose only has 12 hydrogens so where do these 12 other hydrogens come from if it does come from glucose cause it simply doest have that many hydrogens, does it come from water that is used in krebs cycle or i dont know ..please help me

can anybody tell my why the atp synthase can run reverse and hydrolyze ATP into ADP+Pi ? (sorry if my english is bad)
@N1Rguitar
6 жыл бұрын
sunsite15 because the catalyzed reaction has deltaG close to zero, meaning the energy in both forward and reverse reactions is pretty much equal. That is why it is essential to generate, through the proton pumps (complexes 1, 3 and 4), a proton-motive force - an electrochemical gradient of H+ ions, so they would move (spontaneously) through ATP synthase in order to produce ATP.
@cherryberry6492
6 жыл бұрын
What I don't understand is how these ADP+pİ s form inside the beta regions in first place?
@michaelmeichtry316
Жыл бұрын
Hello Cherry berry: When a beta region is in the 'open ' conformation (shape), an ADP molecule and a phosphate molecule enter the binding region from within the mitochondrial matrix fluid, like two passengers being seated on a Disneyland ride. Next, the shaft rotates 120-degrees, locking in the two molecules (loose state). This is like the retaining bar lowering onto the passengers on the same ride. Finally, the shift rotates the third time (tense state), causing the two molecules to bind together (ADP + Pi --> ATP). After complete, the shaft then rotates to the 'open' conformation to begin the process again. While in this initial state, the newly formed ATP molecule floats away, and two new molecules enter the ride to begin their binding process anew. To answer your question, the whole system doesn't create anything from scratch, but simply assembles the ADP and phosphate molecules into ATP molecules. Note: A better term for the 'loose' conformation would have been the 'holding' conformation, but for some reason they chose that terminology.
