They crap out half baked overhyped “HD” ports all the time for 60 bucks (as well as any extra cash for the obligatory ‘you need an amiibo to access this’ content), but this one is so high quality and so cheap to buy it’s shocking. There's a level design change they made later in the game, in the Phazon Mines, that kind of low-key blew my mind. I don't know if this change was made on the Trilogy or PAL versions of the game. It's super minor for what it is, but its impact will be incredibly major on first time players. If I'm remembering correctly, in the US version of Prime 1, there was a Wave Beam door in Phazon Mines right after the first X-Ray visor check, and it would let you progress deeper into the Mines right before you had to fight Omega Pirate. This of course was the original Plasma Beam check. However, getting to this point was an absolute *GAUNTLET* of enemies and hazardous terrain, and having to make the trek *back out* to go get Plasma Beam was positively dreadful. Now instead of having to do that walk of shame back out, you just straight up aren't allowed to enter that section of map without Plasma already acquired, saving you lots of time and disappointment.

Another annoying thing about that section; the cloaked drone mini-boss being un-scannable so you can’t learn its weakness. @@smithychris8537 honestly in a game that's such an example of phenomenal design, that one part has always stuck out to me as a sour spot. it's the longest gauntlet in the game, and since the game has taught you to always expect a save station before a boss, players probably won't be moving too conservatively. then you finally reach the room after dozens of space pirates and an Elite Pirate, probably very low health, and the game has taught you always to scan enemies, so you try to scan this invisible enemy that you can't scan. the only enemy in the game that you can't scan. and *then* you have to go through the electric maze after that, which can also kill you? sure, none of it's a problem when you know it's there, but for new players it SUCKS.

Also something to point out that I like... the CONTROLS! Everyone knows the 4 options but the BENEFIT of the DUAL STICKS options the one I chose is that it has 2 TRIGGER FIRE buttons. A and ZR. It's so when you're playing and and want to aim and fire without the Lock On.... like when you fight Thardus and ur X-ray visor is limited, it allows you to aim with right stick still and use the ZR to fire. Genius! (You can't really use A fire button and stick same side of controller) Also it's going to seem weird people having to press X to select which BEAM or VISOR to switch to at first having to press an extra button. It's NOT a all. It's actually better cause it allows you differentiate which you want to select as you play. It's not two buttons ur pressing so to speak. It's holding down X while u chose which VISOR you want to use vs BEAM. ITS AWESOME! 👍

Running into this in Prime Trilogy back in the day was literally the last time I picked normal difficulty when given a higher possible choice on the first playthrough in any game ever. That shit straight up ruined the game and I thought to myself "never again"!

But how those difficulty levels compare to original? Because og ntsc hard mode was like normal mode in Pal. And pal hard mode was an another level.

So the hardest difficulty to begin on is “Veteran”? Good to know there are difficulty options. Having a challenging experience is one of the lost arts in videos games. Either I’m just better at games than once before, or games simply got more casual and less difficult over the years. Either way, I never really enjoy games where I’m NEVER challenged. Will be playing this on the harder difficulty from the start Also, This remaster release makes me feel like a kid on Christmas lol. Haven’t been this happy for a game release in a longgggg time

To summarize: Gamecube's default difficulty = Wii Trilogy's Veteran difficulty which = Switch's Normal difficulty. It's the correct difficulty to play the game on if you're not a small child or simply hate all challenge.

@@aleckermit there's one reason to play casual if you've played the game before. and that's if you haven't touched the game in years and need a refresher course in order to remember where everything is before doing harder difficulties.

A lot of people say Metroid prime on the GameCube is hard. Metroid prime was never a hard game for me. I have all 3 Metroid prime games. I have Metroid prime 1 and 2 for my Nintendo GameCube and Metroid prime 3 for my Nintendo Wii. What is hard is finding the dark keys in Metroid prime 2 🎮🎮

I’m playing on normal and I don’t want to brag or anything but I am finding it quite easy. I played the original GameCube version to death though, so that may be affecting my perception.

If they do Remaster Echoes (Metroid Prime 2), I have a major concern with what they will do with both the Boost & Spider Guardians - as these were a point of contention in the original. However, due to locking Hard Mode behind completion of Metroid Prime on Normal (clearly a mistake, I'm not playing it through a second time just to have the 'correct' difficulty i'd want to play on from the start to experience challenge), I get wonder what they would do for those bosses. I would massively enjoy Hard mode retaining the original arenas with limited healing, and in Boost Guardians case, putting you on a timer before you succumb to the environmental hazards (or the boss itself). You're on a hostile alien world, that itself has been corrupted by an invasive dark energy species. Of course you'll get fights where they won't play fair. By all means make it easier for the 'casual' difficulty. But i've completed these games on the hardest difficulties they offered long ago. Let me relive it.

The normal mode of Metroid Prime was already easy enough, I don't get how someone could really struggle. 🤣 only "difficult" boss imo is the final boss.

Tbh i hate when they mess around with the difficulty modes of the game. Just do it exactly like was in the original game, how hard is that to do

Imagine if perhaps in a later update a harder game gamemode gets added in I believe most times Metroid’s harder difficulty just increases damage, which is fair enough, but considering the effort up into MPR, I wonder if instead, more enemies could be added in to make combat harder, so like a few more chozo ghosts in the rooms with chozo ghosts or more pirates are called in during omega pirate

My number one complain about this game is hard mode not being available from the start, it realy ruined a big part of the experience. This is a 20 years old game and many have played this already. Nintendo should realy let the people play the way they want, not just claim to let them. The normal mode offers absolutely NO challenge to anyone who played this game before. They should even have included very hard/Hyper mode.

This is ok, but I wished Veteran difficulty was unlocked on start. This is one of the few games I know like the back of my hand even after years of not playing it.

Playing this game for the first time, it still feels weirdly easy even on normal. I'm guessing the difficulty is supposed to come from the moderately sparse save points, but in that case, maybe a mode with a different checkpoint system would have been better than just making Samus nigh-unkillable after a few energy tank upgrades.

OK so casual mode is like an easier difficulty & normal is somewhat a standard difficulty? I never played any Prime game so do you think casual mode is a good place to start like how Metroid Dread had rookie mode?

I'd do Normal. It's not too hard and incentives you to explore for upgrades. You'll also unlock a new difficulty and additional content.

If you have played games before, normal is completely fine. If you get items it's not hard to never die in this game even in hard mode. Causal is probably for who has barely or never played a first person game before

I didn't know normal on the collection was an easier mode. I was wondering why the game was so much harder my habit of tanking damage to get places faster finally caught up with me.
