What is the weight of the batteries? How long do they take to recharge? How about pricing? Is the range comparable to non-electric engines? What is the purpose?

They show a Kreisel 63 kwh battery pack it weighs 400kg =880 lbs. Going from memory (I did the math last year) you would need atleast 3 of those to run a bay boat for the day. I think 140 mile range @ cruising speed. Not light, not cheap. I am definitely interested but the battery tech is not quite there.

Fabulous presentation. Yet most have skipped the 20-30 hp motor for cruisers dinghies. The last entry is totally bold and audacious. If we could just beef up the hp to 15 or 20, I'm in. 👍🏻

@@TonyLee_windsurf Good questions. In the video the Remigo 2.5-3 HP motor purportedly can be taken with you to lunch and be fast charged in 3 hours. Where do I get a 3 hour lunch break? Will the motor run for 3 hours when fully charged when new? How long will a full charge let it run after a couple years of use? And of course the never asked questions surrounding EVs ... Where will the electricity be produced and using what fuel and with what emissions? How and where will the battery materials be mined? What will the environmental cost of that mining and battery production be? Will the miners of these materials be willing adults with fair wages and decent conditions? Who will control these mines? Will those persons/governments be friendly actors on the world stage, or more like the ones threatening the world today? How will these materials be recycled and how much energy will full recycling require? What are the environmental impacts of the recycling (or disposal) process? And what will be the total real cost to the humanity and the environment to own and operate EVs? Not trying to be a naysayer about EV technology as the potential seems very optimistic and it is good to see so many bright minds around the world creating a variety of clever solutions, but I do believe we must honestly and totally evaluate the costs (especially if we're going to wave the environmental banner over EVs as the savior of the planet).

That Remigo is really cool. Looks like the shaft length is adjustable too. Buttons on the top for speed control must be inconvenient in testing, that’s an awkward reach backwards on most boats.

WOW the Vision have potential but reading the specs it need to be recharged every 2 to 3 hours, not much of a trip with that kind of need, honorary mention to Remigo, i dont see that motor in my 2000 pound boat but the creativity of the design is outstanding, those kids are in the right direction to change the industry standards.

I'm all for electric boats! I think they're going to be amazing, however there is zero point to having an outboard motor that's electric! Think about it, the whole reason outboards were developed in the first place was to get all of the internal combustion bits out of the boat. If they want to be serious about this it needs to be designed from the ground up as an electric boat where the battery pack is low in the hull for good weight and balance and either use a jet drive or some sort of pocket drive setup where the electric motor is inside the boat where it's nice and dry!

The elephant in the room is that you get no battery charging by an alternator while underway. Why hasn’t BoatTest addressed this? You cruise to a destination with a depleted engine battery and a house bank that hasn’t charged underway. Then what?
@donkanis6141

So you cruise to a destination and there is no gas station available ? With electric at least you could slowly charge by electric. With gas power you are S O L
@oceanrider68

@@donkanis6141 Gas is portable. Can get delivered/transported/moved easily. Also, for you to “slowly charge by electric”, you have to use less electricity than your panels are generating - so, no cooking, no refrigeration, no device charging, etc…

@@oceanrider68 You can always swap batteries at the local store like you would getting gas. The future has arrived. Some people have vision and others wear bifocals.Oh an by the way all of the new and well funded R & D going on for new batteries will never cause e them to get much lighter or cheaper so we should just stick with gasoline forever. I have nothing to learn from you other than you are one of the many Luddites who will fight new technology and then when its adopted you will completely and intentionally forget you ever made such stupid remarks.

So, gas isn’t available at your destination, but batteries are? Seriously…. Give it 20 years and there may be something there. And, btw, my dinghy is powered by batteries. I’m not against them. It’s just disingenuous to talk about electric boats without addressing charging them at the end of the day.
