To get all of Boo's "dialogue", they strapped a microphone to the then 2-year-old Mary Gibbs, and followed her around for hours on end, then spliced together her various burbles, giggles and utterances as needed (plus a few prompted phrases). Some of these recordings have been used for other Disney/Pixar infant characters, like in Lion King 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3. And of course, Gibbs still receives royalties for this "acting" today!

Fun trivia note: About a year before Toy Story 1 was released, the 4 guys in charge of Pixar got together for lunch and brainstormed ideas for other films they could make if Toy Story was a success. During that lunch, they came up with the ideas for "Toy Story 2", "A Bug's Life", "Monster's Inc.", "Finding Nemo" and "Wall-E". Also, the "Kitty!!" at the very end ALWAYS kills me.
@DaviniaHill
7 ай бұрын
They did not come up with Toy Story 2. Disney asked for a sequel when the first film was successful. They wanted to send it to DVD, but then it was so good it got a cinema release and this caused issues because Pixar only had a 5 film contract, and Disney didn't want to count TS2. The dispute made Disney found Circle 7 to make Pixar sequels, they started on a Toy Story 3 without Pixar. Eventually they bought Pixar.

That doesn't mean in a brain store.Makes session they didn't think of toy story two as an example, It just wouldn't necessarily be the same story... I just Think you're confusing to different issues that are Not mutually exclusive... I think using the language of the people in charge of pixar is a little misleading And as a business major I understand that. Sometimes sometimes that's what we think about as the leaders but There used to be a time when the artistic visionaries were the leaders in businesses... So you're literally talking about when that type a thing Began its decline And there's probably no argument about that

The restaurant ‘Harryhausen’s’ is an homage to the late great Ray Harryhausen, who was responsible for the stop motion animation in films such as The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Jason & The Argonauts, Clash of The Titans & many many more. Back in 2002 when I graduated from art college where I’d been studying film design, Ray Harryhausen received an honorary doctorate at the same ceremony. Not only was being on the same stage as him incredible, but following the ceremony I had the opportunity to meet Ray & got to tell him how much his work had inspired me. Boo was voiced by Mary Morgan Gibbs. She’s the daughter of Pixar animator and director Rob Gibbs (1964-2020). Having been a toddler at the time she was recorded as the voice of Boo in Monsters, Inc., audio crew found it difficult to record her lines because she would run all over the Pixar office. When Pixar's Inside Out was in production, the audio recordings of Gibbs's screams as Boo were reused for baby Riley. One of the production babies listed in the film credits of Toy Story 2 as Mary. Rob Gibbs, her father, was the story artist for that film.

What I loved most about this movie, is that it's a Disney / Pixar movie that focused on a daddy / daughter dynamic, which doesn't happen very often. She's scared at first, but he wins her over. Then later she sees what he's like when she's not around, and then comes around to see that people can be different ways to different people. Most of Disney's works haven't really focused on dads and daughters, and it'd be nice if they did more often. Usually, it's the wandering smart daughter and the clueless or over-protective father (Little Mermaid / Beauty and the Beast, etc..)

One of my favourites. On occasions when I have been home, I have watched films with my Mum. I brought this with me, and Mum was looking at me strangely wondering what I had picked. By the end, she understood why I had picked it. The voice of Boo was recorded from someone's daughter, who they just followed round the studio with a microphone recording all the noises and things she said, then incorporated it into the film. My favourite has to be Mike Wazowski putting in his one giant contact lens.

Tom Hanks' first breakout role was on the TV show Bosom Buddies; a goofy sitcom. He was in Big, a comedy, and Splash!, which was a comedy as well. Tom's switch to serious roles happened later in his life....

The great thing about some of the toys in Boo's room were that some of those movies hadn't even come out yet such as Finding Nemo. Also... I will forever remember the number "2319!!". My friends and I joke and use it whenever something bad happens or goes wrong.... Instant laughs. Always eases the tension.

There’s a show. Monsters at Work. It takes place during the end of this movie in between when Sully has the realization that laughs could be the new power to use in their world instead of scares and the epilogue where Monsters Inc made the switch. Season 1 came out in 2021 and just released a trailer for season 2 coming in April.

So, Boo was voiced by an actual toddler. It was one of the kids of someone involved in the movie. They just followed her around the studio with a mic.

Jesus Simone, talking food and rolls you got me thinking about sushi. But the thought of a Tarantino Roll having feet in it, along with raw fish, really made my stomach turn. Thanks for that thought, I can't unsee it!

The Hidden Café seen in one of the street shots was an actual café in Point Richmond where the Pixar directors brainstormed ideas for then upcoming including this movie and Trash Planet which later became WALL-E (Pete Docter came up with the idea of a robot on a planet filled with trash which he and Andrew Stanton talked over about but they didn't get far at the time, but durin the production of Finding Nemo, Stanton remembered about this idea and developed it further into WALL-E).

Boo's voice sounds authentic because they recorded an actual toddler -- one of the filmmakers' relatives, I believe -- and used her voice for Boo.

Cool fact the voice of Roz is the same person who voiced Wheezy in Toy Story he also played the caterpillar in A Bugs Life and Mater the truck in Cars his name was Joe Ranft and he was one of the first employees of Pixar once it became an independent company after being spun off from Lucasfilm, Cars was sadly the final production he worked on as he was tragically killed in a car accident in 2005

There’s a theory that boo is Jessie’s kid who was the cowgirl toy reference to Toy Story at the end. That when boo grows up and Jessie later meets woody and so on the Toy Story franchise but the fact Pixar films are all connected somehow is crazy

Hello Simone & George!😊 Simone, you saw this 23 years ago? You can't be that old. Yep, that doll was Jessie from Toy Story 2, George. Mary Gibbs was a 4 year old little blond girl at the time of shooting the film. Great reactions to this Pixar classic, Kids!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

Just my personal opinion of course, but to me, this is the best Pixar movie ever. Okay, animation sure got better since, but... the characters: Mike, Sully, Randall, Boo... perfect chemistry, perfect protrayal. The jokes: each and every one of them great. This movie is overflowing with funny ideas, both visual and in dialogue - writers must have had the time of their lives. The suspense: building up the bad guys, perfectly done - their personalities, their motivations. The door chase - ingenious and perfectly executed! Finding the perfect solutions to all dilemmas, tying up all the loose ends in a perfect way - exposing the bad guys' plot, bringing Boo home, replacing scream energy with laughter. And, in the very end, the emotion of seeing how Mike painstakingly put Boo's door back together again, Sully adding the missing piece, the door opening and hearing "Kitty"... For me, this was the pinnacle of Pixar's creativity. They still made great movies afterwards, but for me, none ever reached the heights of "Monsters, INC" again. Perfect movie from the first second to the last.

George, you might be interested in seeing the making of. They planned to have a toddler read lines, and after realising that it is impossible, just followed her around with a microphone. Recording her interacting with the world as a toddler does. Edit: never mind, you literally said it at the end!! 🤦♂😂
