The theory with the Bose L1 system for musicians is, you set them up behind you as a monitoring system. If they're 4 feet behind you, you're getting much less volume directed at you than you'll experience at 13 feet because of how the array works, but still enough to comfortably monitor what you're doing. That's a feature of this system. I have a pair of Pro32's with sub1's, and we've had about 4 occasions over the last year where drunk people have tried to knock them over (unintentionally), so having them behind us is a fantastic way to protect them, while allowing that array to fill out by the time it reaches the front of the stage. Just my perspective. ;) Good review! Thanks.

That's their design for sure and at softer to moderate volumes works great, I'm a singer-songwriter guy who does so. Even a higher-volume local guitar/singers duo I know can place their L1 M2 behind them at more than decent volume in e.g. a converted barn brewery (and boy do they need 180 degrees there). But virtually every harder-core or loud full band I've seen with sticks push them essentially FOH and use monitors. The 180-degree dispersion minimizes the volume impact on stage but of course can't completely eliminate it. Clubbing DJs and dancin' fool wedding DJs--I'm gonna guess especially for younger weddings--are always gonna be pushing that volume, and at really high volume with that spread there's no escape lol. With, for example, two conventional point-source PAs, same guy could hide a bit in the center. And in the live gig world, you can find commentary about how there's a benefit for venue patrons to find spots where they can chat without being completely immersed by the music, typically off to the sides. Anyway, great review!

Hello JPW, I have 2 , Bose 16s and I have a question for you. I run karaoke and Dance shows with mine. The Manuel states use a TRS to XLR in the Bose when using a mixer , so I have a Mogami TRS/xlr female. But when using the TRS it seems lower and far away and and sort of muffled. But when I use XLR to XLR with a mixer in the mic ports on the Bose I get crisp clear sound on music and mics But other owners say you’re suppose to use TRS to XLR w mixer akways. Not sure what I’m doing wrong with the TRS in the bose as I have tried muting other 2 ports and NOT muting to see if better sound when plugged in . What is your professional thoughts and what do you do?

I tried connecting them channel 1 and they seem to clip quick, not sure why. Are you able to suggest the best way to connect these to avoid clipping. I am going through an external mixer. TY

Have you thought of setting your L1 units on top of tables? Without the speaker column extenders they would be at ear level, and the subwoofers at torso level. The table would act as a buffer around your system from staggering folk. Plus, you could add some decor and promo gifts. Flashing light wearables with your info on them and a tip jar next to them.

Not sure how they would work for your needs, Indoors for weddings with speeches (180 coverage) they are awesome but outdoors I might go with a more traditional style speaker & sub where you can focus the sound to one area (the pool). @jpwpro great. Thanks for your response. Excuse my ignorance as I know very little of DJ equipment/set up. So with this speaker, is it plug and play? I mean, is the one speaker all I need, or do I still need other components like a receiver, etc, to have it work? Is like something easy like a typical wireless speaker that connects via Bluetooth or with some type of aux cable. But I do want nice sound and good bass. Thanks.again

Great review, and thank you so much. There’s one significant issue you didn’t mention, so with all your usage of the Pro16, would really appreciate your thoughts. Seems like Bose went all out, then cut corners with assembly and construction. The column array fitting is poor, wobbly, and risky right? The EVs seem more secure and well thought out. The Pro16 is on my short list, but worried about that aspect? What are your thoughts? Thanks again!
@jpwpro
Жыл бұрын
Yes, and that was the topic/concern I had when I first purchased them and did my initial review. This updated review deals with my Pros and Cons since DJing 40+ events with them. The assembly has never been an issue for me and never really thought about it since my first review video. I do agree the EVs are more secure and rugged but I'm willing to sacrifice that and have the 180 coverage (vs 120 for the EVs) and superior sound in my opinion.

Yes one for 50-60 people will be fine. I had a wedding where I was in a corner so I ran a single Pro32 and Sub2. That alone was overkill for that event. A single tower isn’t crazy different than a single you just get better coverage. Example, I DJ’d a wedding where I was in the middle of a rectangle room so I had one pointed left and one pointed right. Later on I turned them more toward the dance floor.
