I documented my experience of the U.S. emergency room situation with the consent of my cousin, Joshua.
Over the course of 15 hours(which felt like an eternity), we were in constant fear of what was going to happen next. The doctors instilled fear from the early process and since we weren’t knowledgeable, we had faith in the process. Although health care professionals are extremely knowledgeable, it’s crucial to have many alternatives and look at varying inputs if you have the resources to do so. If the CT scan was reviewed by a few more cardiologists in the early stages, we could’ve been out within 4 hours. I hope that by sharing this experience, people recognize the importance of asking questions and being mindful skeptics. Without asking questions and looking at alternatives, we could’ve had to stay trapped inside the institution for much longer. I feel for those who resent the U.S. healthcare system but it’s still a blessing to have treatment when necessary. I’m grateful for today and praying for his fastest recovery.
I’d also like to recognize Maria Ines, Raxlon, Elin, and Kriti for being such wonderful friends amidst the chaos.
I’m forever grateful for this community and the amount of love you show me is unrivaled to anything. Thank you so much for being who you guys are. You guys make me feel at home and I wouldn’t be here without you.
Stay Safe,
Jin & Josh
