We hope you enjoy this transformative New Year's Yoga class, a unique and rejuvenating experience designed to usher you into the coming year with mindfulness and vitality. Class begins with a conscious focus on the breath, as pranayama sets the tone for the practice ahead. Feel the length and rhythm of each inhalation and exhalation, creating a foundation for the deep connection between mind and body.
Toward the beginning of class, dynamic movements and postures help us warm up the spine in all directions as we create space to “let go and let in.” Class transitions into the creation of internal and external heat, as we connect breath to movement in sun salutations.
Plank knee dips initiate core engagement in the front body, followed by low cobra and the grounding low cobra hold, engaging the back body. Further strengthening of the core occurs toward the second half of class in poses such as boat pose and upward angle. Move through a sequence of sun, moon, prayer, and goddess squats, building heat in the legs while embodying the symbolic transition from one phase to another.
Open the heart in wild thing, move through a creative flow, with poses including side angle, skandasana, (side lunge), and chair pose, airplane chair, standing splits, warrior two, and revolved reverse warrior, each posture moving to the next in smooth transition.
Deep stretches like pyramid pose, standing forward fold, standing straddle splits, and high cobra, encourage you to inhale the possibilities of the future and exhale the remnants of the past. Challenge your limits with crow pose, embracing forward momentum towards the new year, as we move toward our peak pose of full splits, symbolizing a grand leap into the possibilities that lie ahead.
As the class nears its conclusion, we will practice longer holds and deep stretches, before changing our perspective in optional inversions of shoulder stand or headstand, or any other inversion of your choice.
Finally, allow the effects of your yoga practice to integrate into your body during our final posture, Savasana. Happy New Year from my heart to yours.
