I'm still a tech so I spend a lot of my radio time on 10 meters. I'll be going for general this summer. Thanks. Love the old radios.

They also made an 11-meter version of the same body called the TRC-485. That was my first 'base station' radio growing up as a kid. I'd totally snatch one up if I ever found one at a local hamfest purely for nostalgia.

I vaguely remember the CB version. This one was an eBay find about 10 years ago. This video was the most contacts I’ve ever made with it.

My first brand new CB was the TRC-485. I thought I pretty cool back in the mid 90’s rolling around town talking on that radio.

Wow sir, it sure is a blast to use such radios to work on 10 meters. I don't have a full on hf rig yet but I'm very happy with my HR2510 and a rotatable dipole at 20 feet. Have worked 23 countries with it. 73, DW1QEW.

@@k2cjbradio Yes sir. The truth is, my 2510 started to have an intermitent receive so I bought an Anytone quad 5N, used my old Bullwhip CB antenna without the spring, mounted it on a pole 8ft 8 inches off the ground with 3 9 foot wire radials just this 21st of October and made a contact with Serbia. It really is fun. All the best to you sir.

Great to see you back posting, Chris! I always enjoy your videos. Wow... you have really been racking up the contacts on 10 and 15 meters! In the early 90's when I was first licensed, 10 meters was wide open, and I had a blast with my Uniden HR-2510 talking to the world on 25 watts and an Antron 99 CB antenna tuned for 10m. The Radio Shack HTX-10 holds a lot of charm. I miss Radio Shack stores the way they used to be. Good video Chris and 73!

Thanks!! I agree, I miss Radio Shack too! There’s a website out there that features the old Radio Shack fliers and catalogs. Talk about nostalgia! 10 has been a lot of fun lately. Mostly in the morning. And 15 has been open too. Good times! 73!

Great little radio. I just gave that radio to my best friend who is studying for his ham ticket. I made a lot of great contacts with that little radio and a dipole antenna strung up on my living room wall. Fantastic video. Enjoy the band opening. 73 from KC2NGH.

@@k2cjbradio the stock microphone is kind of cheesy though. You think would have put a better microphone on that thing. Nevertheless I enjoyed using that radio. Catch you down the log. 73

I have an HTX-10, got it from a SK hams estate. It’s like new, had many great contacts on it. Got it out just now, going to try going mobile with it and a mag mount tomorrow…. Thanks for the inspiration 👍

Nice! Sounds like the radio is doing just fine. I happened to get 20 contacts on 10m during a POTA today. It's so much fun when the band is open and I can't wait to see when it gets even better!

Just picked up a "new in box" HTX-10 with a note in the manual that it was purchased in '99. Sometime in the last 23 years it lost its mounting bracket so I plan to make a stand to 3D print to angle it a bit and give the speaker a chance to more clearly make noise. 10 meter ham stick is on the way. Got my tech license last spring and finally trying to do a little with it. Slowly ramping up towards field day in June. Simpler radio means less to potentially set wrong, right? 73, KK7EFH

It really is a simple radio. It might be a bit of a challenge on FD because there aren’t any filter controls for crowded band conditions. But, hey, I ran my FT 817 on FD a couple of times and made it work! You’ll have fun for sure with it!

I have one of those htx-100 as well, lcd is leaky like most but readable. Desperately needs the pots cleaned it’s so scratchy on the volume knob and needs a speaker but I just plug an external one in. 10 has been on fire!! Loving it

It’s a fun radio to operate. I have learned that the mic gain shouldn’t go above halfway. It causes a problem in the mic preamp stage. Might be a problem with this particular rig but it seems to work ok with the gain just below 50%.
