You were correct about your dog burning his paws, the first time I was at the Great Sand Dunes, over 50 years ago, like an a dummy I took my shoes off and regretted it shortly as I had a nice set of blisters on both feet.

It's a shame you guys didn't get to go over the pass, it's beautiful up there. The spring run-off makes those water crossings a LOT more interesting, lol! Bought my '72 Jeep Wagoneer from some folks that had it at their deer camp, outside of Gardener, at the other end of that track. Used-to do it in a '71 Jeep J4000 pickup.

It was a bit of a bummer, but I guess we will just have to go back and give it another shot.

Would love to take my 85 FJ60 there. Visited the dunes in 1979. Staying in Salida this coming July in our travel trailer. Hope to scout out your swimming hole. Thanks

Did someone call emergency services to help the Jeep that was stuck ? Or anything? Seems like you guys just abandoned them.

Ah yes we didn't clarify that. There were several other vehicles we passed who said someone was on their way out to help the jeep.
