Australia is bloody lucky to have this bloke walking amongst us. Not only a brilliant songwriter, but also a thinking man. A man of moral integrity and good politics. He has most certainly left a mark in our hearts that will never fade.

I got to see Paul and his nephew a few years ago doing an acoustic set at a small club in Atlanta. The room was full of fans who knew the words to all his songs and were not shy about joining in. Paul was clearly enjoying the intimate setting and interacted extensively with the audience. It was like a bunch of old friends getting together to celebrate his music.

What a phenomenal songwriter our Paul is! He’s made us laugh, cry, think, remember, dance, and above all go home happy after any of his performances. He and Don Walker (of Cold Chisel) are two of THE MOST talented and genuine songwriters of our era/lifetime in my opinion, and I’m so grateful for them both in my lifetime.

What a combination of songs. Both are brilliant in their own way. Interestingly enough in my own extended family, this song has become the go-to for when we remember the horrible days when we each have had some terrible trauma happen and the repercussions from the independent incidents that befell us all. Amazingly it wasn't till we had a family get-together that we all realised that we were drawn to this song independently. It's not even a well known PK song and in his mind it is about him doing wrong. The song has found us all and it has me in tears every time and I'm as wooden as a tree, normally. Thankyou.

Chris, you are doing a magnificent job! Trying to capture all that is Paul Kelly in one week, even with bonus tracks must be the most difficult job on the planet. I can't wait to see what's next. Undoubtedly, there will be some classics and personal favourites that get left out, but hey, look on the bright side... Paul Kelly week two and three and even more could very well be on the cards at this rate!

Think adding 'vegas' to the end of a place name is to denote tasteless, over cashed glitz & shallowness. My old hometown is often tagged Brisvegas & that does seem to be true of much of the newer development in the city

Yep, Paul had some of the nation's best musos on stage with him in that Careless clip. Serious musicians; no pretensions to fame etc. I seem to remember Vika and Linda Bull singing the second track at some point. They often write songs with Paul. Can't remember if you've reacted to their material before? Amazing singers.

"If you have a good friend have them stay right by your side. Robert Johnson Said that. How many hairs on Rin Tin Tin? I said that." On the Paul Kelly Live 1992 album. "Half the people can be part right all of the time, an' Some of the people can be all right part of the time, But all the people can't be all right all of the time. I think Abraham Lincoln said that. "I'll let you be in my dream if I can be in yours." I said that." Bob Dylan, Talkin' World War III Blues, Freewheelin' album. 1963. I'm sure Kelly was paying homage to Dylan. Two men, their guitars, harmonicas and song writing genius.

Ash Naylor who also plays guitar in the background in Careless is an absolute genius and has his own band called Even. He has also done some solo stuff including recent instrumental LPs called Soundtracks 1 & 2. He has played with many bands and artists and was recently on tour with The Church in the US before coming home to release new music.

Phenomenal choices of performances Chris. Paul is an incredible chameleon of a songwriter. Every song seems so personal regardless of the reality - he can sing from so many people's point of views, it's really quite astounding. This genius is most evident when he sings from in a woman's POV. 'Everything's turning to White' is not only my favourite PK song (just) but a spine tingling tour de force of brilliant songwriting. I wasn't expecting it to be in this initial week, but certainly hope it finds a place in future deep dives into the great man's extensive catalogue. Doing a great job all - it is going all too quick.

Alex and George great job of presenting these tracks. Chris, thank you for selecting these tracks and providing insight I have never had about Paul Kelly. When I saw the titles of the two songs here tonight, I thought I didn't know either of them. I was half right. I have heard Careless a bit before; I just didn't know the name of the song. However, 'If I Could Start Today Again' I don't think I have heard before; so, I am in new territory. Both of these songs are wonderfully written but I was really moved by the second track. We all have said or done things we wish we could take back or have a do-over on. If I Could Start The Day Again was a perfect encapsulation of this sentiment. Simply beautiful.

Careless is one of his best for me. I used to love singing it and would blend his and Renee Geyer's version of it. 💓 Anyway, that was one of the better versions I've heard, there's one that some young fellas did it with him and totally ruined it and I could see Paul was kinda gritting his teeth, it made the poor guy very uncomfortable.😅 Also, because I love pretty much everything Paul does, if I could start today again, is very relatable, but still lovely. Nice choices Chris 😘🤌
