I heard this song on a cricket advert last year when I was in prison. I asked my cell mate who sung it and he said Paul Weller. I took it as a sign after listening to the lyrics and what I had sacrificed going inside. I use to drive around in my van my kids listening to Eton rifles and my 2 would shout the chorus as loud as they could. Can't lie it opened my eyes when I came out and I always listen to this song now. My brand new start is going really well right now.

This song has just hit me like a ton of bricks.. Having been addicted to various things for over 30 years I finally feel I'm turning a corner. Alcohol and nicotine are a thing of the past and with luck will stay that way. My health has been damaged but every day I have on earth is truly a gift. The present becomes the past at the moment of saying and doing. This is now history. Whatever you decide to do in the present moment will become your history. Choose well and look back with pride.

Its very hard to write and make music that doesn’t age.Thats timeless.Weller has managed to do this throughout his career and that’s testament to his sheer genius & talent. This song sounds like it was released in 2020 not 20+ years ago.Truly one of the finest British songwriters.Respect ✌🏾

i just hit 40, physically at least lol, not had the greatest of success in the past due to various things like being a wheelchairer which unfortunately can make these things tougher sometimes, but also being a bit of a pratt several times, making bad decisions etc. but i recently discovered social enterprise and feel like thats something i could do things in, got a few ideas, i guess 40 is as good an age as any to make a 'brand new start'! i listen to this sometimes when i need inspiring.
