Might be a different story for steroids and uppers, which are known to affect mood and elevate anger in a way that would cause criminal activity. And having lived in CA, no you cannot smoke weed in public. It’s actually illegal and you can get fined. Same goes for smoking weed where cigarette smoking is banned, including all the neighborhoods that have banned smoking in public. Apartment communities that ban cigarettes also ban marijuana smoking. Totally correct. 13 is the age normally. Then the psychosis kicks in around 20. The difference between weed and other drugs is that weed stays in the brain 3 months after a joint. Cocaine 3 days, heroin the same. That's the difference. So its quite easy to have cannabis in the system for 10 years while the brain is developing. That's how the damage happens. Some are just pre desposed, their mates get away with it. Then grow up. But those that don't won't recover, unless meds for life. The friends do one, family get burnt out, no girlfriends, no job, no wife. End up alone. prison, or constant admissions. Sad.

Weed is harmless and I'm afraid that Peter Hitchens is delusional. No one has ever 'overdosed' on marijuana and the problems we see with crime are because this product is wanted but illegal with no justification. Hitchens is like someone during prohibition raving about alcohol's 'links to crime' and blaming alcohol. No Peter, the problem is the legal status - if you correct that, then the 'links to crime' will disappear overnight.

@@IR17171717 A I completely agree that there shouldn't be a war on drugs and shouldn't be. It does need to go further though... Maybe legalising at least marijuana and regulating it. It could mean people tested with metal illness were already mentally ill but undiagnosed. I know plenty of people where marijuana has helped with mental disorders such as stress. Not to mention countless medical uses. C look at all the deaths related to marijuana compared to alcohol. Tell me which one has the higher death toll? If you take the marijuana out of the hands of dealers then people will be less likely to buy harder stuff. If they do legalise it, hope the government doesn't over regulate the business. In Canada it is cheaper to buy your dope off a street corner dealer than in an approved government shop.
