A Teagasc conference, in association with Maynooth University and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) on ‘Pine Weevil Integrated Pest Management’ was held on 4 May 2022 at the Tullamore Court Hotel, Tullamore, Co Offaly, Ireland.
It focused on current issues with Pine Weevils in Irish forestry and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) options for controlling the pest.
The event included talks from Irish and UK experts on a number of topics including Pine Weevil IPM, reforestation and continuous cover forestry, pesticide registration, regulations and future outlooks, pine weevil forecasting and the UK experience.
In this video, Professor Christine Griffin, Maynooth University, gives an overview of components of integrated pest management for pine weevil in Ireland. Prof Griffin discusses trials investigated the potential of biological control using entomopathogenic nematodes for control of pine weevil. Ongoing research in Maynooth University on forecasting the time of weevil emergence from stumps is also discussed.
