There is one planet in the Wenkwort system that can achieve -100% upkeep as a forge or foundry ecumonopolis. It is a barren world with the Zen world modifier which adds -15% upkeep. With a Prospectorium Optimizer for another -15% and planetary ascension tier 10 for another -70% the planet will produce alloys or consumer goods out of nothing. Also Wenkwort is an excellent unification centre (especially for Byzantine Bureaucracy).

Haha earlygame feels the hardest part to me as well (and I don't even play on high difficulty, where the earlygame will be much harder than the lategame due to my pop's efficiency slowly catching up a bit). That being said, I think 3.3-3.4 made the earlygame a lot easier in my opinion, due to: --Edicts not requiring influence activation costs anymore (especially during a time when you want that influence to expand!), but unity upkeep costs (with a bit of upkeep-free influence, now called edict fund). This means you can now change your activated edicts pretty much at will anytime, instead of limiting yourself to the same 1-4 edicts for longer times . In the beginning, you can even run 2 ot more cheaper ones for free or almost free, including the +50% basic resource output ones! It is pretty much a reason for me to rush their techs nowadays, while I would have prioritized the +20% resource ones before. -Removing Admin Cap with a slower scaling, but non-removable penalty essentially speeds up the early/lower population part of the game and slows down the late/higher population part of the game.

That is a nice vid. I would love some basic concepts regarding building-focused planets (Unity/Science/Fortress-Slave/Refinery) vs. district focused (Alloys/Energy/Minerals/Food) planets. Maybe some thoughts on resort, thrall and prison worlds? I'd also appreciate some insights into what best to do with ring worlds, habitats and hive/machine/city worlds. As I see it ring worlds are best suited for science as they get special districts and are not reliant on buildings, habitats are mostly good to replace mining stations effectively multiplying strategic resource deposits, hive worlds are the best fit for Energy/Minerals/Food production
@alexandererhard2516
2 жыл бұрын
My Ringworlds are always science, as anything else you can do there usually has superior alternatives in most cases. CG/Alloys? Ecumenopolis or for Gestalt, just normal planets. Food? Just normal planets or Hydroponics Bays. Trade for non-gestalts? Habitats, especially with Mercantile Tradition Tree giving 1 Merchant per Trade Habitat District. Energy for gestalts? Again just normal planets or Habitats. For normal planets and Ecus/Hive/Machine Worlds, you can even boost the production with the Orbital Ring buildings, which you can't do with a Ring World!

Hydroponics farms are great
@melange78
2 жыл бұрын
@@LCInfantry It is still a bad strategy as it is very easy for an enemy to sweep in and destroy all your food production, particularly in the late game. I understand the min-max aspect of it but in real game situations it is much cheaper and safer to just add a few farm slots on some planets or do some rural worlds with high farm output to offset the risk of having to do massive changes during a blitz.
@LCInfantry
2 жыл бұрын
@@melange78 Yeah later in the game you will have to supplement with actual farms to allow more food production so you aren’t having to buy it once your empire population increases. But in the early game - to mid game it’s pretty decent in allowing your pops to produce other needed resources rather then wasting their time on food production. The research tech to increase the percent of food produces also increase your starbase hydroponics farms food production, but it isn’t as efficient because the base number is I think is 10 food. But it’s still produces food. If you got 30 stations upgraded to have 3 building slots…. What else are you going to put in there? Hydroponics is a great choice…. Because why not? Once I get a ring world set up, I’ll usually dedicate one section to food only.

@@LCInfantry Yes but the problem is that you don't get the hydroponics early enough for me to motivate that strategy. Montu please try out the Clone Armies origin! I've been playing it with FP and between the ship bonuses and the admiral bonuses, your fleets are absurdly OP. With the clone vats and Fanatic xenophobe growth speed boost, the main problem early game is having enough minerals to build jobs for your pops. I've also gone Artificers so I can get building slots more easily because you don't really have time to build city districts at first since you will fall behind on jobs. Between this and Aquatic trait, your economy can really skyrocket, peaking at around 50-60 pop growth between your three planets until you eventually turn them into normal pops. I think it could be a really amazing origin if people play around with it, so I'd love to get your opinion.

And one thing I wish to ask/touch upon previously & especially now - is your pursuance of going for 'Energy Credits Early on Your Capital'. I am asking, because I've had games (a recent one in particular) with a 21 homeworld with many mining districts, but only a few energy ones. Would it be prudent (MAYBE ONLY or ESPECIALLY) if I have a separate energy world as my first 2 colonies to focus on the minerals at home on the capital, because I just have so many extra slots due to the planet size? It already helps out that I don't need so many housing districts, because I'm usually spiritualist & masterful crafters. Giving me 1 to 2 free building slots (which building 3 extra industrial districts is... I know are less efficient on the capital), but because I'm going for Minerals on the Capital anyway, the -20% Industrial worker consumption is then somewhat negated and I balance out the two crucial resources earlier as usually a xenophobe empire with more sprawl (necessary outposts & starbases). I've also felt as if the game has needed an EMPIRE FOCUS for our worlds. Such that if it happens that a planet is large or a good size especially - you might be able to use it as a more balanced world to help keep aspects of your economy afloat, whilst still advancing/progressing other aspects. But unlike colonies it requires between 10 population (and an upgraded colony shelter to administrative building) or perhaps just up the population to 15 to 20 or more for this designation. E.g. a focus gives +5-10 amenities, +5% resources from jobs, +10% governing ethics attractions, -10% population upkeep (food/minerals/energy & consumer goods).

Is it really important to have a Mining World? I usually mostly treat them much like Agri Worlds (avoiding them the most I can, basically). My main goal is to eventually have a Prospectorium or just a bunch of Vassals + Market keeping me afloat until the Matter Decompressor rolls around and if I do go red due to overexpanding alloy/research production, I mostly just throw a bunch of mining districts into a Research World & put the +minerals in there until I can demolish it. In the rare cases that All my research worlds suck for mining, I tend to colonize a tomb world and toss all my bots down the mine shafts until it can be terraformed into yet another Research/Unity world. (Or slaves, if I'm running spiritualists) They usually only last for about 15 years, at most, anyhow.

I think the CG, Alloy and Advanced Resource demand is just too big to go on without miners. I think going completely without farmers is way more reasonably possible (especially with Orbital Rings giving you access additional Hydroponic Bay slots equal to the number of planets, but keep in mind that the actual specialization buildings give you much more value than a Hydroponics Bay) To go on without miners (and actually have good Alloy and Research production, because space deposits won't get you that far) you practically require a prospectorium vassal, as you said. But keep in mind that you'll have to pay some science in return for that, and you have to actually get that vassal first). Relying on the market with too big of a deficit (so that mineral prices climb up to their maximum) is a really dumb idea. If you're able to afford the energy for that, you could have just made miners instead of technicians and satisfied your minineral needs with less pops!

@@alexandererhard2516 if he is allowed to do diplomacy with the ai (or do market shenanigans), that is easily the best way to get minerals. if not, miners are needed. @@alexandererhard2516 It's really not too hard to get vassals! This video raised a question for me: how much more efficient would amenities jobs have to be before there was a payoff to deliberately having high amenities instead of just hitting the requirements? You did a similar holotheater vs gene clinic calculation a while back. And while I don't expect any radical results, I would be curious about how much of a buff would be required for a normal empire to benefit from excess production.
@alexandererhard2516

Oh this will be very, very difficult to calculate exactly due to both the amenities to happiness, happiness to stability and stability to resource gain all not being linear, but changing at 100% of amenities needed, 50% happiness (bonus happiness being lost if some bonus are already at/near 100% or negative lost if you are at/near 0%), 50% stability, and after all that, a lot of jobs you have probably have different tech/trait/building percentage modifiers. Basically the reason I say screw it, I make more amenities if I am negative and don't bother with more amenities if I am already positive. Although I will still build stuff that isn't primarily about happiness, like Research Institute on a tech world, which gives a Science Director job that also produces a bit of amenities.

@@alexandererhard2516 Worst case, you console create a bunch of worlds of different types, and then crank the amenities jobs up and down to see how inefficient it is to move workers into amenities. Then just average them together. The production shortfall is the buff you'd need. If I had better familiarity with Stellaris modding, I could probably make a script that would do this.

And here I was thinking you expected a calculated answer thaz works for all cases haha. Anyway as you were mostly concerned with the positive amenities case, I'll just assume the following case: Going from 100% to 200% amenities, with full happiness benefit and full stability benefit (meaning you didn't lose anything from already high happiness and amenities) Going from 100% to 200% amenities gives you +20% happiness, assuming no losses that's also +20% pop approval rating, which (above 50%) is +12% stability, which is +7,2% resources and Trade Value. Now lets assume the start of the game (probably the situation more favorable for this comparison), with no bonuses from tech and only bonuses from stability and traits, I'll expect most jobs to have 110-130% productivity. Assuming 120% producitvity already, adding 7,2% only increases relative productivity by 7,2/1,2 = 6% actual productivity. So your jobs get 6% more productive. Assuming for example your capital with 30 pops, 30/30 amenities produced/required (Those numbers are probably not exact, but should at least be close to reality), and you want to go from 30/30 to 60/30 amenities, you'll need 3 Entertainers for example, that's 10% of your pops. So you lose maybe 10% of your jobs to make the remaining jobs 6% more efficient. In general, a rather bad tradeoff, and entertainers would have to make at least wice as much unity to make going for 200% amenities worth it.

I have played Stellaris since release but with the relatively newish planet management is there any effective way to balance housing and available jobs or is it often impossible to match it perfectly (without messing with job limits)

Assuming you're not playing with Agrarian Idyll, Master Crafters or the Subterranean origin (Basically anything that messes with the usual rules for housing and building slots). General rule: Early game, maximizing the output of individual pops without breaking a fragile economy is key, so balance as much as you can, so only build city districts when you absolutely need them (e.g pops have filled all housing, or you need an extra building slot e.g. for strategic resources, or to create research labs/Unity jobs on a tech/Unity world). We don't want a surplus of empty jobs eating up energy upkeep, and minerals need to be invested in a focused manner. Once you have a stabilized/stronger economy and you know the long-game scope of a planet (how big you want it to get, does it need all building slots, etc etc) then I think it's a good idea to build a few city districts ahead of time to give surplus to housing. Extra housing increases planetary capacity, which has the knock on effect of increasing pop growth. If you know for instance that the world is mostly going to be a generator world but with a few refinery buildings as well, I'd take into account how many build slots you need for those refineries, for an energy grid, a Monument, any other relevant building e.g. entertainment buildings. One of the nice things about this is that a few of the buildings you often want require a planetary capital (e.g. you want a Psi Corps and a Research institute on the planet), in those cases you can build city districts to get your other buildings in place first, then eventually you will get extra building slots naturally for those 2 as the capital building upgrades. If you're playing with the civics/origins that mess up the usual rules of building slots/housing, the general principle applies but how it's executed slightly differs. E.G With a subterranean origin, 3 mining districts gives you a building slot, and 6 extra housing. that's more housing than a city district early game, but less once they have weather control and anti grav engineering. These extra districts also eat up more upkeep and Subterranean origins have growth penalties, so it needs to be managed carefully in the early game. if your economy is booming, then you don't particularly care about the upkeep and just put the mining districts down. TL:DR Housing surplus results in growth bonuses, so you can't go wrong overshooting it a bit on housing, once your economy no longer requires you to care about district upkeep.

Damn! Just got the game a couple weeks back and was hoping to get into this game, but after watching several guide videos like this one, I'm starting to think this game is way too complicated for me to understand. I've watched this and quite a few on colony and planet management and I still don't get it at all. Nothing makes sense.

I'm on my first playthrough of this game and I find this guys videos really hard to make sense of. To me it's just a video Wiki. I'm sure more advanced players get some value. When I push people out of clerk jobs they just become unemployed and I have max buildings. He doesn't really explain the mechanics very well for beginners because he seems to assume we know everything already, like what all the squares mean and when should I replace districts and how many of each do I need with what buildings.

Ons thing I can never figure out is how you're supposed to have enough unity for ascending worlds, doing your traditions, and using ascending edicts while playing wide with over 3k empire size by 2400. Making unity so useful now while also nerfing it for massive empires is killing the game for me.
