The Sign o' the Times movie was shown over here on UK TV, quite randomly, a few years ago and I recorded it to watch later. I enjoyed the experience of the 'movie' with the performance and some of Prince's dramatic, theatrical retakes of certain parts of the concert. But when I got to this track, I had to keep replaying it over and over as I fell in love with it and Prince's guitar playing. He's got a cool neck pickup type tone and the licks he plays in the solo are killer. It's hard to know how much of his theatrics he would be capable of doing live but it was certainly a fun watch seeing him play the way he did. I tried to copy as much of his fretting positions as possible as well as his tone.
Also, this is another song where unfortunately I heard the live version first and now I cannot listen to the actual album track as it doesn't feel energetic enough.

I use a Jackson DK2 Dinky from 2004 (I removed the tone pot and moved the volume over) into a Boss Me50 (where I get my tone) into a Palmer Pdi-09 (which simulated a mic'd up cab) into a Focusrite Scarlett into my computer running Logic Pro X (where I add a little EQ and Reverb).

My headphones are purposely like that so the cable stays out the way.
I have a Patreon where I upload my notation notes for all my new covers and I am going through my old ones too. But I also provide custom notation and video lessons content there or at my bwmguitarlessons@gmail.com address. Please get in touch if you want help playing the music you love. / bwm5150
