If you’re repeatedly dropping your mags onto dusty/wet soil, and you’re in and out of paddle boats where you gun is regularly getting wet and air drying, you cannot rely on ‘periodic mag wipe-downs’ and ‘semi-routine’ gun cleaning! You’re going to need full disassembly, proper cleaning, testing, etc. Be wary of 3rd hand info!!😎🇺🇸

Well that may be true, it kind of sounds like a shot in the dark, any gun yes even the Glocks malfunction sometimes. I've been carrying the Springfield XDM for years on the peninsula just south of you, way through glacier fed streams (yes yes I know it's cold lol,) and it's been my constant companion for hunting and hiking. I've never had a malfunction with mine except for some homemade reloads that I got on the cheap from a buddy of mine. Some of my buddies carry the glocks, and neither of us has really seen better reliability. Now to be fair, we are pretty meticulous about cleaning most of the time, but even in my torture tests have not made one fail. That's just my two cents as a fellow Alaskan. I have the xdm elite 3.8 and 4.5 carried my 3.8 for 6 weeks this summer hiking hundreds of miles in the mountains. When I made it back home shot 100 underwood 200 gr hardcast absolutely zero malfunctions. Haven't carried my 4.5 in the backcountry yet so don'tknow about it. Only had it a couple months shot a few hundred rounds with zero problems. For the record I also have 2 glock 20s and both have trouble with full power ammo especially when dirty like my guns get. Springfield easily wins with 10mm. Also silt, sand in any semi auto mag can cause the mag to feed slower letting the slide outrun the next round up especially shooting full power ammo at max pressures. I know this from carrying glocks for almost 20 years ridings atvs, horses, hiking. Glock 357 sig and 10mm have a very tough time with sand. For what ever reason glock 17 19 do way better maybe the slower slide velocity. Sand mud is tough on everything I flipped a atv in the mud had my 686 357 so muddy couldn't pull the hammer back it locked up. I'm tough on guns lol.

And the gun your taking for bear defense should be in a holster and not dragging they a river while hunting. I also seen chuck shoot your 10mm before and it jammed, you didn’t sell it then, and that happened with the gun you have for bear defense. I would just recommend taking the gun in factory condition with factory spring, and barrel, all that after market poop like your really long barrel is just something that could go wrong.

I will be honest, if you haven't experienced the issue I wouldn't worry about it Chuke. If you properly maintain your gun, and clean it properly, especially if you have that type of fine silk coming from the glaciers. The point I am trying to make is that if you rely on your gun with your life, you will properly maintain it because its a life and death issue. Now, for me I wouldn't really rely on a semi automatic, even if it is a 10mm, I would go with a .460 magnum or .500 Magnum for bears. That being said the people in the comments talking about Glocks are everything, let me make this point on that. Glocks are good guns and reliable, but I have had them fail on me. It wasn't until I spent about 400 dollars in aftermarket parts, barrels, trigger, sights, slides, and magazines just to get it to run correctly. I have the XDM Elite .45 ACP, and I love it, one of the best guns I have owned out of the box. I can shoot reloaded ammo and not have to worry about it because XDM Elites can handle reloaded ammo unlike Glock which you would have to replace the barrel. Also, the XD has a threaded barrel a better trigger and sights, and is ready for optics out of the box, and the magazines are stainless steel. I can't speak for everyone else, or rumors going around, that's not what I live my life around. I have personally seen people clean their guns, but not thoroughly cleaning their magazines. The magazine is one of the most important part of the gun, it feeds the gun the ammo, so you must make sure its thoroughly clean.

I have just the opposite extensive experience while maintaining LEO department Glocks for nearly 30 years…..The more you add after market garbage, the more likely you will have problems. I cannot imagine EVER putting $400 into a $550 Glock to make it run. Sounds like a case of “the cat chasing it’s tail” with questionable aftermarket parts and trying to make them all work correctly together. Don’t try to make a Glock “better” with aftermarket sucker bait! Use only Glocks OEM parts and they are likely the most reliable semi auto you can have. Just change your recoil spring set every 3-4000 rounds. That will cost about $12. Every few years throw in some new mag springs for about $7 each and all of that’s a far cry from $400. That js super cheap maintenance for top performance. Trust me on this. Be safe out there.

@@GLOCKCOPG23 So, you are saying the triggers on Glocks are good out of the box, or the cheap plastic sights as well? Apex triggers for Glocks work flawlessly, sounds like you didn't get the right aftermarket parts. An Ironwolf barrels are better than Glock barrels by far. Glock OEM stuff is nothing but replacing substandard parts with newer substandard parts, it's not an upgrade. My Holosun 507C X2 works good on my Glock with no issues, had issues with the Glock red dot Swamp Fox. I dont have a problem with Glock, but they are definitely not on par with other polymer guns on the market out of the box and they are a bit dated. Their only saving grace, which is a small one is the low bore axis that keeps recoil down more than other polymer guns, but its not a big deal if you train to handle recoil.

@@andog6092 that’s why I specifically said people hear rumors and repeat them without proof. Check the forums and see if you can find a bunch of people having those issues. If not it’s probably not true. A lot of people hate Springfield because of the crap they pulled so who knows if it’s true or not.

Make sure you get an enclosed emitter red dot for your glock 20! (like a holosun 509t or aimpoint acro p2) I had an open emitter 10mm on a chest holster and I got sticks and dirt in the optic and that blocked the red dot!

Not sure I believe the story about the mags. Also, If some person in Alaska calls Springfield to complain about the mags and NO one else has these problems, they sure are not going to stop production and redesign their mags because 1 person complained.

No problems here.....I'm in Atlanta, GA and mostly take trips up in the GA Mountains. No silt here but we sure as hell do have a FUK-LOAD of pollen! Green snow I call it! My car is green and my XDM Elite is green BUT it fires just fine no issues. I don't know how fine silt is but if its just as fine as pollens then maybe its another comparison element to scientifically study but there aint nothing we can do about the pollen here, its everywhere!!!! We breathe it in and gun is always exposed to it even while inside the damn holster!!!!!! But no firing problems....yet lol. But, just in case now after seing this video.....I'ma do just like you Chukey and carry my little Glock 29 Gen 1 with me just in case as a back up gun. Nothing wrong with carrying a little extra tool just in case if pollen cloggs my XDM. I still love this gun though Chuke, we gotta give credit to Springfield.....its nice and not Glocky Blocky.

Considering most of the silt in Alaska is diatiamatious earth who's grains tend to rotate & lock in like concrete I can see where that might be a problem for those who don't keep their units reasonably clean. I haven't forgotten that poor girl on her honeymoon who got her feet sand locked in Anchorage Bay & drowned when the tide came in spite of the rescue units trying to free her feet in time. That's why our sandy beaches are so dangerous. Easy to get trapped in that locking quicksand garbage.

@@keres993 , People are warned NOT to go out on the muddy flats when the tide is out. Saddest part was by the time the dredge boat got to her trying to suck the sand away from her feet it was too late. Her poor husband was there watching the now underwater sand flow back into her stuck feet faster than the dredge could suck it out. High tide was only inches over her head. Even with scuba gear giving her air the cold waters/ incoming currant did her in. Thoes beaches are deathtraps. Rescue teams did all they could but time was against everyone. Hers ran out. Since then tactics have been upgraded but never used as far as I know. MOST folks obey the signs & stay OFF thoes flats. Alaska's has a 1000 ways to kill you, that was just one of them. Entire state mourned/ cried over that horrid event.

I used to live in Fairbanks Ak. where the Tanana river flows right by and the water is chocolate colored from the very high concentration of silt in it and I’ve heard that if you fall into this river that this silt will quickly load up in your clothing and likely drown you. I do find it hard to believe your clothing could get that heavy as to actually drag you down though.

@@j.c.isking2165 , I've seen that. One would think after the 1000s of years all that silt would have been carried away by now. I wonder where it's all coming from. I have the G20 and G29 SF. Now if I was to go with their logic I could not carry my G29 (Not as many rounds through the G20) I shoot the 29 regularly and I found out the locking lug cracked in half and bent the rods. Easy fix. Replaced the block and rods. Still running years later. I broke the guide rod on my Springfield XDM 10. In target shooting. I have seen wheel guns lock up from silt. Long story short all guns have failures which we all know. I feel carry what you feel confident in shooting better. Test your gun and see what it's forgiveness is. Maybe dunk it in the lake and test it after a day of running errands. Too many gun trainers induce unrealistic fear in people. I am about to pick up a XDM 3.8 elite to try over my G29. I like my G29 but it is not built for my hamd. I usually carry my nice heavy 1911 10mm more. To nice to carry in the woods. Enough testing from others now I want to run the gun hard. Time will tell

I live in the Sonoran Desert of AZ and except during our late-summer rainy season, dust is just a fact of life, especially out in the wilds, but iindoors too. It drives my mom nuts when she visits, she'll wipe down this glass table I have and a day or two later it's covered with dust! For years she was convinced I was sprinkling dust on it at night just to mess with her! Anyway, all my XD's and XDM's have been flawless as always, tho I am a bit OCD about gun cleanliness... HOWEVER; regarding SA's claims about mag testing: when the US troops carrying the ol' Beretta M9 (another one of my favs, I've had many M9's and 92's) in the Iraqi desert encwoounter feeding issues, it was determined to be the EXTREMELY FINE dust that tends to exist in deserts, as it does here. They redesigned the mags with a different finish and some mods to the follower and they ran tip-top after that, and those are the mags that now come standard with 92's. I have to imagine that SA tested their mags to deal with the same kind of fine dust as Beretta did, so I'd take the tales of malfunctioning mags up north with a big ol' grain of silt...er, salt! 😜 Apologies for the crazy long comment, too much coffee this eve, not enough beer. Cheers to all! Oh, a quick PS, regarding Croatia, they are in fact becoming a MAJOR center in Europe for development and manufacturing; Rimac, who builds crazy super cars and battery tech for many manufacturers, is based there, as well as whole host of other companies making CUTTING EDGE stuff... When I see 'Made in Croatia' now, I don't dismiss...
