I've watched that same Ben B video years ago. I'm growing mine the same way.

This is quite helpful. I bought myself a desert king without realizing that i would never get a main crop since we dont have the wasps here. I dont want to get rid of it so i need to get those breba

Great video! I do quite like the bush form of growing figs. I also remember seeing a great video from Bob Duncan (in BC, Canada) about how he prunes his Desert King tree for brebas. I'll likely apply some of the same tips when I come to prune my inground tree.

Yes, I really like the video that Bob Duncan put out as well. His KZitem channel is Fruit Trees and More and the video is: How to prune figs in a cool climate for first (breba) crop fig production. I will follow his lead on my single stem trees.

Yes, I'm inclined to have a few DK in bush form, and prune 3rd year stems out after harvest, but keep all non-fruiting stems intact for the next August fruit production. This keeps the bush low within reach. I love low cordon style, in a line, for similar accessibility for harvest and pruning post harvest branches too. Now, I'm going to do the Bob Duncan style of tree. I'll compare all of these types through the tears.

Thank you. Im growing many fig trees..has anyone noticed you cant seem to find a good sized fig tree to plant anymore? They are all twigs with some root! Im old, i dont like to wait yrs for any grow to come on. Thankfully i bout a few desert kings a few yrs ago that were larger, one just like yours there...all finally producing fruit, but others are so small . Altho found some 6 ft high about 3/4 inch around with no branches, so a twig....from mossy rock. Wa.

My buddy Ram in Kirkland says, “this isn’t FAST food”. I totally get where you are coming from. I wish I could either speed up the growth or slow down my aging!

Thank you so much for this video! How do you plant a new DK to get that multi trunk to happen? Do you have to plant it deep with nodes below the soil or will the DK send up suckers that will create other trunks?

Just plant it normally and it will create suckers. Might take a couple of years.
