@@wolfsisterheart , I'm not sure, but I think they are children's books. I was once approached by a lady from church who wanted to talk to me about some books she was selling. She was disappointed when I told her I don't have kids, but perked up again when I told her I'm a teacher, only to be disappointed when I clarified that I teach adults. One of her kids was in a Sunday School class I was teaching and from what the kids would say, I figured that she was homeschooling her kids. Maybe that's the kind of books they are.

Fun fact: I have never, in my life, ripped a pair of leggings while putting them on. I put on all my clothes calmly and carefully, as to not rip them. Just to see what they were like, I ordered one pair of LuLaRoe leggings. My untrimmed toenail caught on the inside of the left leg and INSTANTLY tore it. Not even tights have done that to me, and those are typically much thinner and more tearable than leggings.

+spinningchurro I believe it depends on what level of the pyramid they’re on, though. These desperate and aggressive behaviors toward recruitment are used constantly, so I wouldn’t blame a victim for acting just like the people taking advantage of them. It’s how they try to survive and convince themselves that it’s not a total waste. If they end up saying something truly awful in an attempt to guilt-trip or lie to you, though, then maybe it’s worth getting mad about. It all depends. Just never join them.

I *almost* got caught up in a MLM when I was 18 and naïve. It was selling "cutlery" and I'd never had a job before then (was told multiple times I needed experience, yet you can't get experience if you aren't given a job first but that's a whole other topic). They had a booth set up at my college campus and PUSHED heavily for inexperienced students. The company was called Vector, and they worked out of this small, shitty office and had us read actual templates on how to "sell" it. Had the people "working" in the office all in posh suits to make it seem like they're "successful". I'm glad my parents talked me out of it, yeah I was a little tilted because I genuinely thought I'd make a good chunk of change from it.. but looking back on it, I'm glad I didnt go through with it.

All of these people are literally my science teacher. She's telling us about how awesome essential oils are and "medicine just covers up the problem, but essential oils solve it" and she has a diffuser constantly running in her room. EDIT: She teaches biology and genetics, but there was a section of the year where we focused on the human body and how it works, which is where her beliefs REALLY came through in her teaching. I actually did bring it to the principal, because the essential oils made it harder for me to focus and gave me very painful headaches. Also, she was technically 'treating' us, since she acts like this is a better form of medicine and will cure everything wrong with us, and teachers aren't allowed to give kids medicine, and neither can the nurse. That's the main reason the principal took away her diffuser. EDIT: I just remembered that she also always talks about how "It's a hundred percent natural, which means it's good for your body!"

I was only able to get my ring because my mom BEGGED my friend's mom to loan the money, so now I feel a strong sense of guilt when I wear it. MLM made family dysfunction that wasn't at all necessary, its complete bullshit.

@mellvee
5 жыл бұрын
Oh, honey, that's terrible. No disrespect, but MLM's can't cause dysfunction where none exists. The dysfunction came into play when your mother spent money she had promised and earmarked for something for you, on the MLM. That's not the fault of the MLM. I'm not trying to be harsh and it doesn't necessarily mean your mom is a bad person or anything; she simply made a selfish decision in that one instance. No parent is perfect! And I agree, MLMs are dirty, predatory and disgusting. Just make sure you blame where blame deserves, and don't blame someone else for a problem caused by someone's personal choices. It's a really slippery slope from that, to blaming others for everything that goes wrong in your life. I am really glad you got the ring, though, and don't feel guilty - you EARNED that shit!!!
@meowtherainbowx4163
5 жыл бұрын
+mel vaughn The problem is that MLMs are very effective at encouraging poor financial decisions. The mother is also part of the problem, but maybe she was influenced by the very common rhetoric of just taking advantage of some wonderful business opportunity. Also, they tell you that if you aren’t making money (which is true unless you got in very early on the scheme), that means you aren’t invested enough. She probably made this impulsive decision because she was being encouraged to throw her money away and expect ten times as much to rain back down on her.

1:45 Because once you scrub the toilet, you're guaranteed the money. It's not dependent on selling someone something they don't want, which can be hard. Also, some people would probably rather just clean for eight hours than deal with people in a sales/social context. And cleaning services can make good money if they do good work and develop some regular clients. Tbh, if it wasn't for the MS, I'd have considered doing it while I was out of work.

Lawlz, I actually really like essential oils....but then again I KNOW they don't do shit. I just really like the smell of lavender and it helps me sleep/calm down. It's a sensory thing. @RandolphCrane

Essential oils DO shit. Lavender, for example, has antibacterial properties. You can add it to some soapy water to clean surfaces/floors/... more hygienically. Lemon oil has the same property. Lavender can also help calming you down (if mixed with a carrier oil like almond). Clove oil can help with toothaches. There are many scientifically proven properties these oils have. But that doesn't make them magical, and they can't cure cancer nor autism.

sooof1839 Be tolerant and have patience when it comes to ignorance, don't be angry. You change more lives positively by keeping calm. Yeah, it does suck that there are people who will judge and hurt others based on their lifestyle and beliefs, but pushing them back only makes them push back harder.
