He's been around since THE SEVENTIES... Post punk as The Birthday Party... then he had Blixa Bargeld as a key musical partner for the Bad Seeds... but this new phase is really shaped by Warren Ellis who is in The Dirty Three. They have written some great soundtracks for movies and this (to my ears) is them taking that approach to a Bad Seeds record. They have some new folks in the band for this record, most notably Colin Greenwood from Radiohead on bass.

You were so spot on for someone who knows so little of the back catalogue, you obviously have musical ability. I suggest you go to the back catalogue, BOATMAN'S CALL, LET LOVE IN, MURDER BALLARDS, and if you are brave even earlier... Then you hear the journey and how this band grew, developed, and earned their right to this... Not just Nick and his personal circumstance but how the love song as a response to our times, over the last seven decades, has grown...

I listened to this album twice on release date. It’s incredible. The chorus choir used in several numbers are pure genius. Very emotional. Searching for answers. Favourite track so far is O Wow O Wow. All of the tracks just grow on you. Pure poetry. Nick Cave is a one off brilliant lyricist and performer.

It is one of the best albums I have heard in years. After listening to it, I went out and got tickets to see him in dublin.

Skeleton Tree is the album he made after the death of his young song. THAT album is the somber one but ends with a beautiful closer. Ghosteen is also sort of a sequel to that album with dreamy soundscapes instead of the gloomy, stripped back moods of Skeleton Tree.

You're a Nick Cave novice but managed to sum him up perfectly with "It sounds like a gospel version of slam poetry". You have so much amazing music ahead of you, I suscribe in the hope you'll explore their catalouge.

Nick's albums are totally different from one another, if you do want to give them a chance nonetheless I'd advise Push The Sky Away or Abattoir Blues (O Children from HP is on here)

One of the greatest song writers of our time. Definitely worth it do a deep dive though the entire catalog. And, an absolute 💯 must see live. Some say it’s a religious experience and I would 💯 agree. Also, checkout his main collaborator the mad scientist Warren Ellis and his band the Dirty Three.

Nick and the seeds have one of the truly great discography's ever going all the way back to the early eighties, in fact Nick was famous/infamous from his original band the birthday party one of the absolute best of the original post punk movement and to this day still one of the nastiest badass kickass rock n roll bands ever. When they imploded he start the bad seeds who have to have the coolest rock family tree of any band ever period, all the members past and present are all over some of my favourite recordings/albums/ bands and solo projects that I have in my collection outside of the bad seeds stuff. Plus he write books, screenplays and he and his current main collaborator Warren Ellis are constantly doing soundtracks, and I am much more of a Mick Harvey/ Blixa Bargeld early bad seeds fan 2 amazing fellas in their own right. Plus he gas a garage rock side band called Grinderman which gave a couple of wild albums too bit of a fan boy but maybe even more so of the bad seeds than Nick but that's splitting hairs as apart from the beautiful ,profound, dark, funny, honest aggressive poetic songwriting he is one of the very best his other great talent is picking collaborators

You should listen to Ghosteen. That body of work is a masterpiece and it's actually all about the passing of his son

Try out his old albums its pretty difrent (exept last 2 albums ghosteen, skeleton tree - is also pretty good) you could make videos from it too. Nick Cave is good old rocker, his music changed lot after passing of his sons. If youve watched Peaky Blinders s 1, almost all song in there are from him.

If you like this album listen "Push The Sky Away", "Abattoir Blues" and "Dig Lazarus Dig!" Personally my favorite period of Nick Cave. Of course a lot of others albums are great. "Let Love In", "Murder Ballads", ... And if you can see them in concert, run Forest run, the best show man of the world.

Nobody writes an extended crescendo like Nick. Check out Jubilee Street from the Copenhagen show, We Call Upon The Author from the St. Luke's show and There She Goes, My Beautiful World, you won't be disappointed.

I don’t think anyone in the bad seeds is classically trained, but they’ve been doing this since the mid 80s. 4:34
